Octavia thoughts

Just started this thread to see what peoples thoughts are on the Octavia. Personally I find the pads very grippy and need some serious breaking in. I haven’t yet played it enough to add much more then this yet.

I’ve heard 2 other players so far criticising the response pads, so you aren’t alone it seems.

I didn’t have the gall to drop $300 on one myself, but there’s no doubt that they look absolutely incredible. I’d be lying if I said I still wasn’t tempted… :stuck_out_tongue:

I just received mine yesterday. The pads are pretty grippy, but I expected that. If you read his blog article about the pads he explained how they are pretty grippy for the first day or two and break in after that. Haven’t gotten to spend too much time with mine yet, going to have to clean my bearing tonight before it sees more play.

I think the Octavia is the finest yoyo ever created.

I’m well aware of how yo-yo preference is purely speculative…but I will tell you right now that the Octavia is hands down the best playing yo-yo I have ever had the pleasure of throwing and is the only yo-yo that nails ALL my preference buttons. It’s play, performance, and aesthetics are astounding.

Thanks Jeffrey for creating this masterpiece! 8)

Pads are grippy for sure. I think because David hand makes all of them, there are variences in pad thickness. I had to toss a few out because they were out of spec, essentially too thick. Some that made it in were flush which will take a while to break in.

The gap is a bit smaller, about half an mm smaller than usual. This is my preference as I like tight binds and regens. Its a regen monster, but of course people who are into such things as cray sideways combos might find this a hinderance in performance.

And all this is noted, I dont shun away from criticism. Raw Octavia and one or two special editions will be the last installment of the Octavia series before it is retired, and likely changes will be made in the areas adressed above.

As always Thanks for all the love, seriously wouldnt be possible without every one of you. They are all sold as of today.

Thanks again!

Jeff ;D ;D

I’m loving the Octavia so far, can’t wait to really put some time on it this weekend. Just curious, what string did it ship with? Also, loved the little hand written compliment about my S2k, thanks! ;D Luftverk has quickly become one of my favorite companies, your attention to detail is through the roof, I love it!

Unlike the Evora which I absolutely LOVE, the Octavia just didn’t hit the checkmarks for me personally.

But for the ones that it does fit, I’m so glad that you guys are supporting Luftverk and Jeff cause I am really digging what you are doing with throws and want to see that continue!

Can’t wait for whats next!

Ive gotten comments saying the complete opposite - I know some who hated the Evora but loved the Octavia. I think it really depends on your play style.

After playing it for sometime now the pads are starting to break in quite nicely. This isn’t a heavily rim weighted yoyo but plays quite nice. The finish…is fantastic. Probably one of my favorite finishes of all time.
I did immediately notice the smaller gap but thought that was in my head at first. It definitely plays better with a thinner string. So far I am quite enjoying this throw and look forward to seeing what comes next.

The plat bearings sometimes have issue after a few throws when they are fresh, a couple cleanings and it is playing very nice again.

I don’t have the guts to make it my EDC yet since it is still lacking in some love marks but I am sure that will change.

How does it compare to others out there? From the looks of it, I would think the Octavia plays much like the Ti Dream. What are your thoughts?

Another question for Luftwerk: Are the response-pads a stock size? Since many people are experiencing issues with the response; can they be replaced? If so, by what size?

Oh most definitely! I totally appreciate it as a great throw and I’m glad that you were able to cater to the other crowd for sure.

Yep! YYF 19mm. In fact if you throw a pair in it will likely sit flush (I designed the yoyo seat around those pads as that is my favorite pad size). The HS pads do have some consistency issues that I hope we can work out in the next batch.

Dream Ti plays much more like a Japanese style extreme rim weight yoyo (Think Drapnir). It feels and is lighter. The Octavia is more solid, with mild mid weight. Hope that helps.

I want one, but can I justify paying 400$CAD for one?

Gotta love that exchange rate :stuck_out_tongue:

I think I saw one on the b/s/t earlier. I could be mistaken…
Then again, with it being very limited, it will probably still be a very pretty penny…

exactly this, 290 is one thing, but 400 was just too steep

I really like my Octavia so far, just haven’t had a lot of throwing time yet to get a true feel for it. Pads definitely aren’t broken in yet, but I’m looking forward to seeing how they work out; except for trying to find replacements if I end up liking them…

Finish on it is absolutely amazing. Probably one of my favorite blast finishes that I’ve played with. The bronze color is also great, and the way the colors are iridescent on these is awesome.

Compared to the Evora, I find the Octavia to be much more performance-oriented. That’s not to say the Evora isn’t a performer, I just find it to be more laid back than the Octavia, and laid back is slightly more my style. That being said, if I were entering a competition, the Octavia would probably be one of my first choices.

The NSK DS bearing is great, but it was already my favorite bearing, so that wasn’t any surprise to me; I already have them in 6 other throws.

Unboxing/presentation is a treat. The Evora and now the Octavia have both been the best packaging of any yoyo that I’ve owned, and it really adds a little extra special touch to owning them

Overall, the Octavia is well worth the money, just like the Evora was; easily two of the best releases of 2015. Jeff, you’ve hit it out of the park twice now, and you’ve got me hooked. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next, keep up the great work.
