Bringing this back from the archives.
A number of months ago I bought one I saw on the BST.
Apparently they had a tight bearing seat and someone ‘adjusted’ it so it had some sanding marks on the seat.
It was dead smooth and still had the drop in pads mentioned in Jeff’s blog.
I loved how it felt, the weight and the shape, but it kept ‘spinning out’ for me or would not stay spinning very long.
After a small exchange from another member here I figured it had to be the response. I pulled out the pads and used flow silicone in the groove.
The next day I was floored. It completely changed how it behaved. Now it has been transformed into an amazing long spinning work of art. maybe spins 1 & 1/2 times or 2 times as long as before. still binds excellent. 100% smooth and the glass dust finish is super elegant to look at and feel.
Glad I snagged it.
Steve
oh hey steve! sorry i forgot to reply to your messages; im really glad that flowable silicone helped!
i think i should change the pads on mine too, haha!
