NYYL and YYF. What's going on?

I would like to remain silent, but I thought about what S̶u̶p̶e̶r̶m̶a̶n̶ Jason Lee would do in my place.

It looks a little weird! Like last year a YYF representative made a racist joke towards one of the NYYL representatives. NYYL made a statement and imposed sanctions.

And now:

a) They spent a YEAR investigating a situation that lasted for a few seconds??? A year???

b) NYYL made this up? But many people on the yoyoexpert forum confirmed that they had noticed similar things from YYF representatives before, so it is unlikely that the NYYL representative made this up.

c) They forced NYYL to change their shoes?

I ask those who are in the subject to leave a comment with any information or your opinion.

Yes, it is important to me. I am against racism, pressure on people with the help of power and benefits and corruption!

I agree but also worry this topic won’t go well on this forum knowing the personalities here….

Long and short it feels off but will leave it there.

Thanks for the comment anyway. Any information on this topic would be useful to me personally, because it would help me to conclude that I just imagined something, but there really is a problem. I really kept silent for a long time.

If I pretend like I didn’t hear second hand about last year’s incident, I’m going to have a little thought experiment here:

The very idea that the league could privately investigate a very large sponsor and declare them innocent with no context or details lies somewhere between ethically suspect and completely morally bankrupt.

I really don’t know more than I read here on the forum. And I have roughly the same feelings.

This statement is really disheartening. I only know of all this second hand, but the wording of this completely removes any accountability from the person who made the comments and paints the person on the receiving end as a liar. Its a real shame that this is how this has been dealt with and has wider implications on just those directly involved.

Knowing this was coming might partially explain why YYF has been so active on social media for this world’s build up as it absolves them.

NYYL and YYF need to do better.

It sounds like it was more of an apology in the way the league handled and dispersed the information. Hopefully nothing questionable happens in the future but if it does they will handle it differently.

To me this mostly reads like a legal “CYA” of some kind, but I agree it does nothing but muddy the waters more and brings up an issue again that was most-likely “settled” in the minds of most people.

Posting this right before worlds so that all the attention is elsewhere seems like an attempt to sweep it under the rug to be honest. It’s not a good look.

Ignoring the question of “did the event that had multiple eye witnesses happen last year or not”, the lack of transparency with how this was handled at the time and how it continues to be handled now is quite disappointing.

I don’t think any sanctions were imposed? YYF themselves decided not to sponsor any NYYL events since then.

All this crap does is hurt the community- its sad, and immature.

It’s almost like the only way anyone would learn a lesson is to get punched in the mouth.

Not that I’d advocate that sort of thing.

Locking this because it has been relived too many times over and over again. Its complicated and ultimately the goal of that NYYL post is to emphasize the matter was taken very seriously as I can attest), and should have been handled in a more private manner than it was. Lessons have been learned and the goal is to move on now with what has been learned. The code of conduct has been refined with higher expectations, better protocols in place and procedures on how to properly evaluate and handle.

This post is better to reference and the code of conduct too.
