Have you tried the Nomad by W1ld? Also I love these reviews, waiting for more esp competition throws!
Brass nomad is my fave d bearing. Such an underrated throw that I feel a lot of people overlook
Idk if gingie has tried it, but I personally like the nomad each time I’ve played with it. Not exactly my favorite yoyo, but I’d give it a good 8/10. Good power especially for a d-bearing but still retains the zippiness of using such a bearing.
Would you think of it as “competition oriented”?
I own the brass nomad, got it in a trade as a throw in to match value and until you mentioned it just then I didn’t realize it had a d bearing.
Honestly it’s in my top 10, it’s got a really good zippy presence while maintaining the strong spin and stability of a bi metal. The finish on the matte ones is also really nice for grinds and it’s got that w1ld smoothness.
Judging by the fact I couldn’t even tell it used a d bearing until then probably means it still stands in its own right as a quality throw regardless of bearing specs
And @Boy, I would totally see it being valid for competition use but it mainly comes down to:
a) what tricks you’re doing
b) your preference in yoyos
I mean I would hesitate to call most d-bearing yoyos comp-oriented, but if I were going to use one for competition, I probably would use Nomad. Note- as the @Maelstrom said, if you’re doing a lot of zoning or hops/lacerations/hooks and are used to wide (53mm+ wide yoyos or so) throws, the 48mm width the Nomad offers may not cut it for you. It’s useable for me because a) I don’t perform well in comp in the first place and b) the tricks i do are typically more techy, so I don’t rely on width usually. Hope this helps a bit.
