MoonageMin & Twitch's Trick-a-Week Challenge! (2020)

Lol, I thought they changed that setting when someone complained about it. Maybe only for PMs or something…

So I can’t find anything(! wth right!) to use as a makeshift counterweight. I’m thinking I could make one using flowable silicone… and a prescription bottle as a mold. I’d prefer a sphere, but a cylinder should work fine. I’m gonna use my scale and make it 12 grams, which should reduce to 11 or 12 after drilling a hole.

Sound reasonable? Anyone have a better idea?

Bluetac?
Playdough?
Eraser
Bouncy ball

Edit: oh right, yeah, I don’t have any Bluetac or anything similar.

No idea what Bluetac is. Would Playdough be strong enough? Only erasers big enough are my daughter’s which she would kill me if I used. And I’ve been looking for a damn bouncy ball the past two days.

We were decluttering recently in preparation to move soonish, so I’ve got a lot less junk lying around.

Dollar stores are still open in my city. Put a mask on and go hunting!

This should be an interesting counterweight in about 24 hours

Supermarkets usually have little bouncy balls for 50 cents. Just push a nail through it.

I am excited to learn 5a… i tried it once maybe 2 throws and said i can’t do this…(yet i own 8 counterweights).
Once again i have to that @twitch77 and @MoonageMin for TaW. The last 4 months of yoyo have blown me away. Thanks.
@Mystik your manipulations .of circular motion is poetic. Your advice of setting length deff made a difference tonight. SHORTER STRING for 5A!

im only 2 days into legit 5a.
Sorry to bore everyone for 30 sec, but i really like my wall paper so i post a lot of video .

This is my 5a fir starters…2 beaters, 2 nicer throws (u decide which is which).
Other then wide catch zone what do we want in 5a throw? (Banshee SS iis not a good catch don’t try it).

Cool, that GT is another one to add to what I learned today (other 2 being trapeze switch and double/triple on trapeze)

Trying different shapes with this 5A thing, my third one is a POM diffusion but it is currently in my drawer at work (which I don’t have access to at this time). I think the Serenade will be the better one to learn on due to its width and stability. Not ready to do metal yet with 5A as I don’t have a soft landing.

I know a few 5a tricks (Butterfly being the “coolest”) but I’m starting from the beginning with the fundamentals so I can have a better feel for this.

Posted it in another thread but thought I’d post it here too since we’re covering basics of 5A:

Had some fun with trapeze switch and a 360 which made me feel like I was doing something while noobing about. I’ll have some more to share tomorrow as I learned a few more (while smacking the wall with my dice).

Oh wow, @AKYOYOMIKE, @YoyoDrew, & @AngryGumball I’m pretty sure I speak for @twitch77 as well when I say that we are so glad that this challenge has been inspiring everyone to learn new tricks and new styles!

To be honest this is totally the same with me without this challenge I don’t think I would have progressed at the same speed either. Especially with 5a, it’s a style that always looked so cool and I have always been meaning to try but it was daunting and I never had the motivation to take a break from 1A and commit to learning 5a properly.

I think this week and the month to come was exactly the push I needed to overcome that and get some 5a basics down.

Great progress all of you, I watched your 3 videos and all of you are looking great already. Well on our way to having a decent enough 5a by the end of the month to do some casually when stuck on 1a progress. I think I’m going to start taking a counterweight with me everywhere and mix in 5a with 1a practice really enjoying this so far I’ll also post some progress video later.

It’s a very awkward and unfamiliar movements and catches but I think I am and it looks like you guys are too getting more and more used to it day by day :).

Decided to try some stuff out this morning as a refresher on what I picked up on last night. Was laying in bed watching tutorials for the 720 and afterwards decided to give it a go, finding the momentum wanted to keep going and ended up with something a little more grand than what I anticipated. It happened so fast that I lost count of how many revolutions it did haha…reviewing the clip…1800 anyone?

A couple more for today - a double on and that GT thing.

I’m now trying to wrap my head around the 5A variant of Double or Nothing as well as getting used to Trapeze and Brother Switch. Also working on “half bee sting” which I almost have…I just keep failing to catch that dice!

One thing - what’s the deal with me shredding string faster with 5A? I put on a fresh string this morning and it’s already feeling ratty.
