Introducing the Melzi, the second signature yo-yo of Tomoki Toyama, designed as the true evolution of his first model, the Da Vinci.
When Tomoki approached yoyofriends for his next competition throw, his vision was clear—but nearly impossible: maintain the lightning-fast speed and acceleration of the Da Vinci while adding more power, stability, width, and catch zone—all within a compact 56.3mm diameter and under 64 grams. Defying physics was the challenge, and the Melzi is the answer.
The design builds directly on the Da Vinci’s unique V-shaped profile with a touch of H for stability, now stretched wider to open up the catch zone. To amplify power, yoyofriends developed a new generation of stainless steel rim design—an extreme, wrapped vertical placement that pushes nearly 20 grams of mass to the very edge of the yo-yo. This bold engineering gives Melzi incredible spin strength while keeping the body agile and durable.
Tomoki himself named the yo-yo after Francesco Melzi, a pupil of Leonardo Da Vinci, symbolizing its lineage as a perfected successor.
