I can land magic drop on either front or back string. However, it seems to work when I land on the front string instead of the back. So, as a leftie, is it different? Videos of trick show right handers landing on back string or is it just me.

Why, this is one of my favorite tricks!
On the back string will get you set up for shockwave. On the front is a sliiightly modified [trapeze and his] brother mount.
Edit:
Should be the same exact concept for left handed play. Just mirror it.

This could help. This site takes a youtube video, and can reverse/Flip the video to show a right handed trick as if its left handed. Find a good video of shockwave/magic drop and then pull up this website:
Then copy the youtube video url you want, and and paste its address to the end of the website above, without spaces, and now its all within reach!
