Hajime’s been doing quite a bit of zoning/body 3a tricks recently (see his worlds 2024 routine/after-party performance), so the wider shape is probably to help with that.
Interestingly, the Blur Autoscopy (his 1a version of the Autoscopy line) is pretty narrow at 40mm. Idk if he actually uses that when he completes in 1a or if he just prefers it for casual sessions though.
No real reason for that tho. Kinda just a relic from when wider yoyos would tilt and spin out more at lower rpms. Yoyos are good enough now that it doesn’t really matter imo. He used the liminals for worlds 2024. Also he didn’t do as much of the denser tech stuff but w/e lol. I could see it being a problem with denser stuff like the tricks in his 2023 worlds that were cut in 2024. I’ve been using crescendos at 49mm-ish bc I was curious about this and the width just seems helpful and hasn’t really hindered anything for me. I don’t like dense 3a though.
