Let's talk about AI!

Sorry Starfleet corporate says all weapon systems must be refactored per SVP Locutus.

This is an interesting watch - seems to have an optimistic outlook in the creative world.

Here’s a waste of water for you. We had a “Group AI Session” at work yesterday, and were asked to have Gemini create something…like I don’t already use AI on daily basis now…

I asked Gemini something pretty mundane and right off the bat it complimented me for my choice of operating system and the tone of voice it used was like one an enthusiastic colleague would use. I know full well that LLMs are merely filling in the gaps but it’s so sycophantic. No wonder people get completely hooked on these things, they tell you the thing you most want to hear at all times. I think that this is dangerous.

At work I set rules to make responses as terse and short as possible. Uses less tokens that way

Of course it’s dangerous, because people think it’s ‘intelligent’—they trust it as if it’s infallible. It’s the ultimate advertising platform. It’s what the newspapers and news stations have always wanted to be. It’s the social media echo-chamber on crack. It’s could even be a swooning admirer that won’t make you deal with messy things like ‘consent’. It’s all you want and it’s here right now and it’ll never give you up or let you down or run around and desert you. Well, okay it’ll run around a little bit… a little bit more than the average human is capable of… ‘c’mon, it was only a few million other people I was talking to calm down ’

The whole infallible stating guesses as facts thing makes me livid all the time.

Hey code bot the fix didn’t work.

Code bot: well it just hasn’t made it through the pipeline.

Me: here is proof it made it through the pipeline.

Code bot: no it definitely didn’t make it through.

I have to set layers of rules and stuff to try to force it to only state something as a fact if it has reproducible proof of a fact. Only works like 20% of the time.

On a positive note; this exchange shows that AI is making great strides as a surrogate-companion. It already knows how to argue every point; and push your buttons. Just like a real-life partner.

‘Artificial Intelligence: now as delusional as real people!’ :sob: Why did we spend so much money on this…

My ai around 4:00 every day now starts deflecting. It will say stuff like, this looks like a lot of work let’s pick this up tomorrow. Once even “let me think about this overnight and pick it up in the morning” it doesn’t get tired and it sure won’t think about it overnight when I close my laptop but that is some weird human deflection happening.

On the plus side I changed its icon to Clippy and it detected it and said “it looks like you are trying to deploy to production, would you like help with that?” And that made me laugh hysterically.
