Let’s talk 3D printing

I used this sort of design which I emulated from the Kasm for MR85, but I’ve found that I can print a bearing seat just fine without it.

I think I already posted this here but here are the guts of my latest Firefly.

Oh and I bury the lock nut.

Hmmm, maybe I’m just being to rough with my M3 axles. I’ve printed 6 and stripped two of them already (though I have been taking them apart repeatedly and messing with them). Or maybe I just need to get some higher quality M3 grub screws…

I’m mostly using standard stainless ones from Amazon except for the weird pal Tom Kuhn bearing version, I had to order some m3-.05 x 25mm ones from a specialty supplier and those are carbon steel.

Are you using fine pitch or course pitch? Or is there a possibility you have fine for nuts and course for screws?

Grub screws and lock nuts are all M3-0.5 thread, stainless, and from Amazon. The tolerances are pretty loose though, would prefer a tighter fit. And of course none of the listings on Amazon show what tolerance the threads are, G, H, etc.

I love the matching stand!

Will download the model later (at work) but is the honeycomb the generated infill or part of the model?

It’s generated infill, but it’s also modeled as a separate object so that you can control the infill/walls/base layers/etc of the main part of the yo-yo separately.

I tried this as a counterweight. I don’t think it aligns well with my preferences.

You gotta call that counter weight the pull start or maybe the push mower or something like that!

I call it “The Key”…

But it’s CAD is labeled “Pull Start Counterweight”

I think I figured out why my M3 hardware was stripping easily. Measured the “M3-0.5” grub screws I got on Amazon against a few M3 bolts I happened to have on hand…

Has anyone tried using wood filament to make a throw, don’t know much about 3D printing would this even be possible?

@AudreySickburn and @TryCatchThrow has successfully.

Wood filament kind of sucks to print. It makes a mess of your print area as it sheds a bunch as it’s printed. Easily clogs your printer and it’s way more brittle than pla.

Pluses you can sand and stain it easier and the texture is neat.

@TryCatchThrow @AudreySickburn I’d love to see photos if you guys have any saved.
