Printed top against textured plate? It might work better for the pips with some light supports and bottom down? Or smooth plate if you have one.
Yes. Top on texture. The top isn’t my main concern it’s the sides. I guess I could print on smooth plate. My main concern is that the pips are not super visible and you have to look close and then when you look close they only look ok…
I feel like a dab of enamel paint, or just nail polish would be very quick to apply to each pip, and that would go a long way. Could maybe also use a permanent marker or something on white, I think you’re right that at this size of object the pips are just never going to look quite right by themselves.
This looks fun. I’m going to try a crack at it. I have some black and white filament I might try printing it on the multi material unit and do the pips colored.
I didn’t want to do that because on the Bambu one it’s really wasteful about flushing volumes. I’ve tried before with the Boomer Dice Weight. I know I could dial down the flushing volumes to be more conservative but
Yeah if you dial it down too much it ends up looking horrible. I’ve been there! But printed dozens of turtles for my kids and they kept failing because the black wouldn’t purge properly unless I wasted tons of filament. If you use other colors beside black it’s not too bad on the Prusa. Still some waste but not the worst.
I’m going to test it on some weird filament that I think might take to color purges easier. (That limestone based stuff)
Otherwise I’ll do other colored pips or base color other than white.
Nail polish has worked the best for me. And if you’re careful it usually looks better than wasting a bunch of time and filament on a multicolor print IME.
As a non-nail polish user myself, I think my wife’s color palette may not match what I’m looking for right now…
Yes, all of this. The scarf seam option in Orca also helps hide the seams really well once you get the settings dialed in.
Try convincing her to go through a goth phase for black nail polish. Or you can go through a goth phase.
Boomer Dice Weight you say?
I use a surprising amount of black nail polish in the garage.
Same. Every time my youngest wants nail polish (which is frequently), I stop by the dollar store (because name brand stuff is too spendy), grab whatever colors she requested, and a bottle of black for the shop. White comes in handy, too.
Weird place to paint your toes but whatever works.
I appear to have none printed ATM.
My most recent one I printed squishy in TPU.
Those are cool!
I need a set of 3D printed dice stacks
I’m going to tweak the design tonight and put it on printables.
I was really looking forward to testing out my latest 3D printed yoyo prototypes last night, but my hotend decided to self destruct during the print. I swapped in a new hotend assembly only to find that there was also a severe extruder jam, which destroyed the filament sensor and a small ribbon cable. Parts ordered, and now I wait…
