Lathe Chucks for Yo-Yos

So, I am gonna have a machinist make me a design, but he said there’s no place for the chuck to hold so I have to make the rims about 5 milimeters wide.

What I’m confused is, how do large companies like YYF or MYY make their rims super thin? I don’t understand: Where do they hold the cylinder on the chuck?
