Kun: The “Baseball Doughnut” of the YoYo World

Does anyone else use the Kun or something similar to warm up and then throw traditional sized yoyos? I went from throwing the stainless steel kun for 5 minutes and switched immediately to the Overdrive Draupnir. Straight madness. All it reminded me off was When I used a baseball doughnut back in the day to lighten the bat in baseball. Quite fun!

What does the doughnut do in baseball? Just make the bat heavier? I’m unfamiliar, teach me!

Yes it does

Ok but that’s like … kind of … literally … the opposite … of the what the Kun does?

Like maybe if you picked up a teeny tiny bat the size of a matchstick but made of tungsten?

The doughnut in baseball adds weight to the bat in warm up swings, so it makes it easier to swing when you’re in the batter’s box for real. For me, the kun is a fairly tough Yoyo to throw consistently; but to then immediately throw the OD made it feel extremely easy and effortless. Just an observation that took me back. Curious if anyone else did something similar and their thoughts.

Yes, I was only kidding. I’m a notorious goofball. I like the idea of a tiny tungsten bat. I’m not letting that go, man! :baseball:

I do this with my Loonie. I like the challenge and it definitely tightens up my technique.

Yeah, not that I have a micro I alternate days between it and a regular throw.

Yes indeed. It makes perfect sense to warm up with something heavier before going into action.

Well, just the other day, I went across the street and did 4 sets of bench presses using a fat neighbor lady.

Once I was seriously warmed up. I came back across the street and took the 396 big block engine out of my truck.

No kidding🤓

yeah it’s a good workout
Yesterday I grabbed mine and I cleaned the bearing with alcohol and now it makes some noise but it has no response, it lasts longer turning than before and I notice it more powerful, freer on the rope!!
I play with the kun (for me it is the best micro-yoyo I have ever tried without a doubt) for hours on end and I have even been days alone playing with the kun !!
and later I like to take yoyos of about 50 mm, that before seemed “small” to me and that now they seem to me to be gigantic and super playable (!)
It is very surprising and interesting to try this type of size contrasts.

Why not a bigger heavier throw like the Dread G or the Mega Crash or the Legendary Campaign? Wouldn’t that be more analogous to the bat with the extra weight?

I see where using the term weight makes it confusing, but your point is interesting and making think. My initial thought was from the viewpoint of the total experience of going from the Kun directly to the Overdrive Draupnir. Throwing the Kun to immediately throwing the OD was almost laughable because of how simple it made it. It just reminded me of that feeling back when I used to play baseball.

Yeah, both are valid general forms of

intentionally choose to play with this awkwardly sized or weighted version, then playing with the “correct” version will be easier for you!
