Remind me how to tell the real from the fakes?
I saw a thread here before showing the differences, mainly the anno/finish is off (not pyramatte) as well as the engravings

Best way to tell is by the finish. It should have a glossier finish. From the pictures i can tell the finish is nothing like the factory summits. Fake ones looks bland and matte where the splash patterns on the real summits are random and aggressive. If that makes any sense

If you don’t know how a photo was lit and what camera configuration it was taken with, then trying to infer things like surface finish from it is not really possible. Additionally, finish can be replicated as easily as the shape of the yoyo. The most truly reliable ways would be:
- A paper trail (each previous owner can attest to having sold it to the next owner, all the way back to the original owner, who has some way of proving that they bought it new)
- Thorough visual comparison against multiple known-legitimate models in the same colour. This would obviously require having them to hand though…
Scepticism is your friend when avoiding scams. Relying on a single detail will only make you vulnerable to being duped by a more sophisticated fake.

So i actually found out a really good way spot a different!
Brief Explanation : the real summits colors blend way differently then the fakes. Summits have insane color fades in the ano (example 1) and fakes colors do not blend or ever so slightly (fake 1) my advice is to ask trusted collectors for advice or help if you need help identifying authenticity. Might take some eye training to know the difference.

I feel like these are a bad example because they’re actually so obvious that I feel like they didn’t even try.
Like come on, it’s not hard to make one letter line up with the rest of the letters.
Hell, these guys didn’t even bother to use the right typeface. There’s no prominent machining line in the cup. They didn’t even bother to match the shape of the cup correctly either. This thing is a joke.
Again, I’ve seen examples of better fakes.

Machining and engraving should be trivial to 1:1. Pyramatte is as simple as getting a Roto-Finish and experimenting with media mixtures. The hardest part seems like it would be emulating the splash anodize.
Looks like they are casting a wide net, trying to clone anything that receives hype (peak, grails, summits, every single clyw, etc) and the results are mediocre. Let’s just hope they don’t focus up and try to 1:1 anything.
