Illinois State Yoyo Contest – April 30th, 2016

The 2015-2016 Illinois State Yo-Yo Contest will be held on April 30th, 2016. This year’s contest will be held at Everybody’s Coffee, 935 W Wilson Ave, Chicago, IL 60640.

What looks like a quaint coffee shop on the outside opens into a massive, 5,000-square-foot performance space with 30-foot ceilings and room for up to 500 guests. Previous year’s contests were huge successes, but we are very confident that this year’s contest will be even better.

James Buffington, Bill Alrifai, Bill Brooks, and Tommy Gun are this year’s organizers, and have plans to make this year’s contest something special. There will be the Sport Ladder, Sport Freestyle, 1A Freestyle, and Open Freestyle divisions.

Judges for the contest include Conner Scholten and Jake Elliot. Others are still being determined, but they will be some of the best in the sport.

Yoyo Expert, Gruntbull Anodizing, 44 RPM, YoyoTricks, One Drop, Yoyo Officer, Legyoyo, and Duncan have already signed on as sponsors. Even more sponsors are in the works.

Updates about the contest can always be found at http://www.illinoisyoyo.com/ and https://www.facebook.com/IllinoisStateYoyoContest . As the contest gets nearer more info will be posted about registration, as well as details on the afterparty, raffle, mini contest challenges, etc.

We are working hard to make this a great contest and hope to see you there!

how much will registration cost and when will it be available?

Registration info should be up by the end of March. It will probably be between $10 and $20 depending on divisions.

Cool man thanks

I’m very happy to announce that registration is officially OPEN! Go to http://www.illinoisyoyo.com by April 28th to register for the 2016 Illinois State Yoyo Contest.

Did you know that registering sooner then later helps contest organizers plan out contests better? It gives us a better idea of how many people will be competing, what kind of prize support we can give out, determining if prelims will be necessary, and catching any problems with your registration.

Go to http://www.illinoisyoyo.com by April 28th to register for the 2016 Illinois State Yoyo Contest.

Do you like/hate being the first one up? Would you prefer being in the middle? How about going up last? As a special bonus for early registration, the first 10 people who register will get to choose the order of which they go on stage. They can choose either the beginning third, middle third, or last third of the contest lineup. Some of the spots are already filled up, but if you register soon, you can still choose!

We are very happy to announce that Dano the Mano will be back this year as our professional Emcee!

If you don’t know Dano, he’s a yoyo player with a love for both the old 90’s era plastics, as well as the newer metals. He’s the “Noise of the North” in his regular gig as the announcer for the wake boarding circuit, where he’s announced almost every professional wakeboard event within the US, and even some abroad. Since mid 2014 he’s also hosted and created The Golden Mic Podcast, where he interviews the top athletes in towed watersports.

Dano is a great friend to the Illinois State Yoyo Contest, and elevates our event with his professionalism every year!

We’re less than two weeks (April 30th) until the 2016 Illinois State Yoyo Contest! Prizes have been coming in, and our sponsors have been very generous.
Make sure you register online at www.illinoisyoyo.com before April 28th. Checkout the above website to find rules, division, and information about the contest.

We are excited to be partnering with Windy City Kendama this year, with them having a room next to our contest. They will be running a Kendama Jam, with demonstrations, mini games, and a separate kendama raffle throughout the day.

This is an exciting opportunity to bring more awareness to both the Yoyo and Kendama communities in the Chicago area!

Just a Reminder: Today is the last day to register online for the Illinois State Yoyo Contest. If you haven’t registered yet, do so now. Registration will be available at the contest, but will have an additional charge of $5 per division unless you made prior arrangements with us.
