How does WD40 compare to 'proper' yoyo lubes?

i’m currently using WD40 as lube because i have one of these handy when i started…

it’s a penetrating lubricant, and is pretty thin by my standards but, it seems to make the yoyo responsive (yyf pocket change and velocity), can anyone tell me from experience if it is thicker than the ‘thin’ yoyo lubes that are available?

How does WD40 compare to ‘proper’ yoyo lubes? Badly.

EDIT: As seen on YYE, Is WD-40 harmful for the bearings?

WD40 is not a good idea for lube. Use YYJ Thin lube, clipper oil, or gun valve oil. WD40 coats the bearing making it more responsive.

haha, i’ll file that one under ‘epic fail’, thanks guys ;D

Trumpet valve oil works great to because it is unresponsive.

The simplest explanation I can provide would be that WD-40 isn’t designed for a high speed application. Spray it on your mailbox to help prevent rust and it’s fine, spin your mailbox at 5-10,000 RPM and you might have a problem.

The same company makes 3-in-1 oil which is much more suited for bearings… though it tends to be a bit thicker than something like valve oil or yoyojam thin lube.
