I’m excited to announce that the Honeypot, a new yo-yo by Hesh Enterprises, will be formally released this Saturday at the Spirit Yo-yo Contest in Long Beach, CA.
This yo-yo is intended to be a reimagining of my first yo-yo, the Petri, but made smaller, wider and with more rounded edges so that it would be less challenging and more comfortable to play. I designed it while working as a machinist in January of 2020, then slightly modified the design in 2024 and had it machined by my friends at One Drop Yo-yos . I’m really happy with how it turned out, and am looking forward to getting it into your hands.
The Honeypot measures 54.5mm in diameter, 38.6mm wide, weighs 65g and will retail at the contest this Saturday for $90. Afterwards, it will be released online at a future date to be announced Not Now But Soon.
Here is the profile of a prototype, which is unchanged and identical to the profile of the production Honeypot. This is my daily throw, so please excuse how beat and scratched it is, lol.
Spirit was a blast, thanks to everyone who came by the booth and said hey! I’ll try to make Honeypots available online in the next week or two, I need to redo my website first lol. Online release date to be announced shortly.
Also, I’m considering engraving them all, since a bunch of the people that I’ve shown my engraved prototype to have said that they would want engravings on theirs. Would you be more interested in getting a Honeypot if it had cool engravings on it, but were a little more expensive? The extra cost would depend on the specific graphic and colorway; for example, simple line drawings take only a few seconds to engrave while really detailed images with shading and stuff like that take 30 seconds or more when engraved white, also I’d want to engrave clear ones black which takes much longer and thus would be more expensive to produce due to additional machine time. Additionally, I would need to take into account the cost of hiring a graphic designer in the extra charge, considering I’m not the greatest visual artist myself, nor do I have enough time to work on the graphic ideas that I have beyond conceptualization. Conversely, would you prefer a completely unengraved yoyo? Let me know, I wanna talk about it!
