Every pride month for the last few years I’ve looked at my Instagram and wanted to do something. I feel that so much of pride month is the disingenuous posting of rainbows and mindless repeating of catchphrases backed by very little that actually helps queer people in need. I can’t stand when giant companies do it and I wanted to make sure that, at least in the yoyo community, yoyo companies and players had a way to show their support for the queer community in a way that actually made a difference.
It started by reaching out to the queer yoyoers I knew and asking them to join a confidential group chat (message me if you’re a queer yoyoer above age 18 and you want to join). We then worked for 3 months reaching out to companies, creating graphics, shooting video, writing and recording original music, and compiling it all together to bring you a massive charity yoyo giveaway. We are raising money for The Trevor Project, a nonprofit suicide hotline serving queer youth.

By donating through the instagram fundraiser which you can find on the instagram page @yoyo_qrew, you will be entered into the giveaway with a chance to win stuff like yoyos, a 30 minute one-on-one tiktok lesson from @angel2up, getting your yoyo painted by Coffin Nachtmar and more! For added clarification, when you visit the @yoyo_qrew page there’s a link for the fundraiser, clicking on that will walk you through the steps to donate which will go to the Trevor Project directly not the Qrew. You can then dm the Qrew’s page with the receipt to claim your entries.

@Modern_yoyos if people want to donate but don’t have/want an insta account a) Will the link still work for them? b) Could they DM you here with the receipts? I’m sure there are forum members who may want to contribute but not engage with insta.
I donated a bunch. And I’m happy with that. But do I need to do any other action to get the tickets or to register or something because that was somewhat unclear to me.
Yeah. Honestly. If I just donated and it just got used for something good that would probably be enough. But you know…I also enjoy yoyos. So if they wanna give me one then I wouldn’t mind.
