Help me understand the hype behind the Kagerou

As a whole when a yoyo is hyped up, I tend to notice but not really care, or at least I can see where the hype is coming from

But in the case of the Japan Tech Kagerou, I’m not actually sure why it’s selling out so quickly, and why people who miss out are going to BST immediately after.

I’m mostly just wondering why, as other Japan Tech yoyos don’t sell out nearly as fast, and I’m not exactly seeing why the Kagerou specifically is.

It’s a new release, the Mirage has been around for almost 4 years now and the current iteration has had a ton of drops and colorways released over the past two years. It’s also a budget version, and it’s not exactly like people are rushing out to get St. Elmo’s or TP2’s either, despite both of them being good and Turning Point being a hyped up brand.

It seems like people are just generally paying more attention to high end Japanese yoyos now. The Kagerou is a brand new premium release from JT, and it’s getting a lot of good players saying very positive stuff about it. That on top of having a collab with Something which as least broadened the marketing/hype for it a bit more.

The Kagerou exists in the ‘Truffles’ category of throws.

Those that have tried them say they’re one of the most delicious, exquisite things they’ve ever tried. Typically these are people of clout. Professionals, food critics, yoyo throwers, celebrities, all those at the same time, etc.

Those that haven’t wonder why on Science’s Green Earth the rest are going to so much trouble and paying so much money for a fungus a pig found under a bunch of decaying duff.

There’s only one choice to make if you’re a part of the latter party: join them, try the ‘Truffles’, or don’t. That’s easier said than done. Truffles are rare :yum:.

It’s a stand out release that deserves some hype IMO. As a full sized premium bi-metal yoyo with top notch performance what’s not to like?

Post edited because I mis-bearinged this yoyo. It’s still good.

The Kagerou doesn’t have a D sized bearing. The Minirage is the only D bearing release JT has done.

Too many yoyos to keep straight in my head I guess!

I was lucky enough to grab a b grade. If I had to describe it I’d say it’s like a larger more fun chopstick gorilla. It is very good. That being said scarcity builds hype although I still think this throw deserves the hype.
