Handturned yoyo prototypes

You have a good eye for details! It was our initial idea, but we changed the angle to give it more a “diamond shape” (new shape unlocked).

The d014 was a test because we wanted to make a d013 without the caps (unibody). Sadly while we was removing materials form the inside it started vibe a little. That’s the reason for the scratch on the outside surface.

Beautiful!!

Do you know if the Delrin ones are turned with the same lathe and tools as the wood? I’m just starting my wood turning journey - would love to try some other mediums.

Oh shoot I just noticed this! Please share with me how this bushing holds up after some throwing and if it appears to wear down strings at all?

I am considering making a one piece fixed axle from canvas phenolic aka micarta and am dreadfully curious.

We’re using tools for aluminium/stainless steel. Like this one https://www.utensileriaonline.it/images/optimum-maschinen/set_utensili_tornitura_esterna_md20_ltf.jpg

To make the undercuts we have modified the shape of some holders (the black part of the tool) and made it thinner.

It’s been a couple of weeks, and it’s holding up well. No signs of wear on either the phenolic or the string.
