Hand Made Yoyo

Hey all,
this is my handmade ball bearing yoyo. it was turned on a lathe and fitted with rivets that were pressed to create a starburst pattern. From there a bearing seat was laid in them and then I added an axle through the middle. It is an imperial shape so it is perfect for looping as you all know! It is made of oak wood and then it was varnished. Its the woods natural color as well, no stains were used. I think it turned out pretty good! It also plays with no vibe so everything was centered nicely! basically to sum it up i tried to replicate the shape of the Tom Kuhn No Jive. The no jive is a fixed axle imperial shape yoyo for those who don’t know.

This is the first picture. It is the side view of it. The brass portion in the center is the axle threading and the back end of the rivet.

This is the second picture. It is the profile of the yoyo. Its a standard imperial profile.

This is the third picture. This picture shows the yoyo taken apart. You can see the axle and rivet spacer set up and on the other the rivet and spacer set up as well. Basically this yoyo was fairly easy to make. the hardest part was turning both to be exactly the same. I made this on a wood lathe with my tech teachers help.
I hope you like it! it plays great too with no vibe! It is fantastic for looping and it handles string tricks as well!

If you have any questions just ask! I’ll be happy to answer!

Nice job, it looks great!!! I love old school throws ;D

cool love it

Thanks!

i think metal starbursts would be pretty harsh on strings eh?

Wow NICE job. Ironically, I had the exact same wooden Yo-Yo, and I tried to give it a Ball-Bearing. But the thing had a horrible vibe when I was done

Ah, well. Nice to see someone succeed where I failed XD

Actualy metal starburst are ok on the string since they are so fine and close togeather. They are quite gentile due to their thinness. This yoyo Is actually hand turned by me so it is all origional. It is just BASED off of Tom Khuns no jive. And again it plays with no vibe!

Really? O_O I have a wooden Yo-Yo I bought at a Historical Museum in Rhode Island (I think) and it looks exactly the same. The shape, the wood-type, the varnish…It looks 100% like the one you made (Minus the bearing mods).

Looks good. That Penn State bearing kit makes a pretty good looper.

that looks great! it has a very old school/Tom Kuhn feel to it. nice!

its probably just a basic old school throw. most wood throws are this shape and profile. Mine was hand turned to clear things up though.

The bearing kit was very easy to use! For my next homemade throws i think i might just use a standard size c bearing since i will be making 1a throws. I usually play 1a. Ill also just make the bearing seat myself with tools and ill make a groove i can put rtv in for a response system.

Very nice work. Getting both halves the same on a wood lathe is no easy trick.
