Also yo just want to say thank you to yye and the yybc and all the people that made video tutorials and the other participants and the sponsors. I love you all this was super fun!
I’m sure I’m getting the terms wrong since I’m a n00b, but I was referring to something nearly identical to a trapeze stall, except instead of wrapping the string around the index finger of your offhand, you use the thumb of your throw hand.
You’re probably right, but for some reason I thought lunar stall was from a shoot the moon or other forward pass type motion.
So if that’s lunar stall, what’s the similar one from shoot the moon?
Edit: After some searching I think the one from shoot the moon is lunar landing.
I’m pretty sure you right on that.
Lunar is just an abbreviation of Lunar Landing (or Moon Landing) which is the thumb stall off of Shoot the Moon. In the modern fixed axle lexicon, any analogous thumb stall can be referred to as Lunar.
Worth noting that Lunar Landing may actually be the ORIGINAL intentional stall trick - definitely predates Trapeze Stall.
That modified Butterly is fascinating. And dope trick too.
@EF.n.YOYO makes them.
I was going to ask how to do it, but I see a bunch of replies about it already including a video. Lunar I can do, Mars not yet.
Hey Mr. @edhaponik, I know I’m too late, but is this even close? I feel like I’m missing something crucial, and I REALLY want to understand this trick.
Thank you everyone for your patience! We hope to have everything totaled and ready for drawing prizes by the end of the week.
Thanks for the fun, everyone who put this together.
lol me too
I skimmed over his tut too quick & i though he was doing a suicide because he does it so smooth
almost. you’ve got the idea - just gotta put it together into one motion. it FEELS like a suicide in rhythm, but the yo-yo has to fall “through” the loop on your throw hand which you let go of before it even catches and replace it with your turned-around free hand. it’s pretty subtle.
Fwiw it helped me to practice it some without the inverted nth outside the arm just like pass through and catch the loop. Helped me to understand the element and timing of it. Like I got a good feel for it that way and then added the more complicated catch later. Trying it like that could be worth a shot
honestly i think it’s easier to understand in an unresponsive or 1a context. i developed it as a 1a trick the way you’re doing it - first catching the yo-yo in the wrap/pinch and then eventually realizing i could switch hands in the middle of it.
i insta’d the version i posted above along with two other variations: one where you catch it IN the stall and the usual 1a version i do (which is WAY harder on wood lol - i should do that version next year).
I wanna tell you to stop playin, but trying some of your ridiculously difficult tricks is part of what got me where I am today with fixie, so I’ll refrain. Instead, I say let’s do it!
Also, I definitely get the trick now. As in, understand it. Not as in, can do it lol. Thank you Ed and @GTDropKnot for taking the time to help me out.
I had 3 videos and 3 tricks. Trapeze stall. Makin Da Zines. Tape Measure.
I’ll most likely spend the rest of this year learning what was posted this month. 0A has been a ton of fun and I find myself reaching for my fixed friends over and over again at the beginning of my Yoyo journey.
My final list was
Trapeze stall
Sidewinder
Makin da zines
Inside loop, outside loop, alternating loops
Tape measure
Banana slide
Then i moved around the second week of February and had absolutely nowhere to film myself😅
This was filmed during fixed axle February but I forgot to post it here Thought y’all might enjoy some fixed axle 4a!
