Couple weeks ago picked up two Butterfly XTs when I saw them in a store. Both are the newer version of the XT given the identical graphics. On my scale the red is 55g and lime/yellow/whatever is 54g…both heavier than the previous version so I’m sure both are the same newer version given weight and graphics.
Even though they’re decent stock I wanted to clean the bearings and add some Brain lube for better response. After cleaning I noticed that, while both bearings spun well, one bearing spun better than the other. Turns out the bearings aren’t the same.
The top bearing is from the red/orange XT and the bottom bearing is from the lime/blue XT. Notice the balls in the bearings…top one has 8 slightly larger balls while the bottom (and better spinning one) has 10 slightly smaller balls (tough to see with my poor iphone focusing skills).
My question is: did I get gypped out of a 10-ball bearing in the red XT or did I score a bonus 10-ball bearing in the lime XT? Or, is it common for Duncan to use whatever they have in the parts bin closest to them when assembling them?
