Okay, folks, I have a question. I need to start practicing breakaways now. The videos that I watch you kind of throw the yo yo to the side but professionals throw it different. But I can’t find a video of how to throw a breakaway professional style that isn’t really fast.
I’m looking for any videos, tips. Tricks anything you guys can offer and how to throw a breakway professional style or how you throw it? If you have a video you want to show me? I’ve been watching a lot of gentrystein, and I think the dude is phenomenal, and I wanna be good
Is it just me or is it crazy how many yo-yos you’ve bought/sold/gave options on/etc and you don’t know how to do a breakaway or bind. I’m not trying to be mean but it just seems like you’re putting your cart before the horse here
None taken, but I can bind, and I can breakaway but I don’t like the side throw breakaway and I want to learn how the pros do it or a better way. The side breakaway is corny imo so I’m trying to learn the pro way so I can get my tricks going.
You can’t offend me in anyway. I’ve had a hard life so anything you say is perfectly fine. I dont read into anything. I do admit over the last 4 months I have bought 20 yoyos sold 5 and just purchased 3 more one already came and 2 more shipped.
Ive had a rough year with depression and all the medications I got put on just to have insane side effects or allergic reactions I told my doctor yesterday dont put me on anymore I will handle it on my own.
So to get back on track. I am 100% dedicated to start learning everyday. I just want to learn a better breakaway. There is always better ways to do things. That side breakaway can’t be the only way there has to be an easier faster way and a cooler way.
FWIW, I spent a year-ish throwing breakaways the “wrong” way I only realized watching a Diego B tutorial that I might be throwing it weird. I was basically throwing it like a 4A throw, but sideways. Took a while to unlearn. Still do it out of habit sometimes.
So never a bad idea to go back to basics now and again!
Yeah, I think that’s the best bet. I’m gonna go back to the basics. I’m gonna relearn everything I did. Do a boomerang today, so i’m actually pretty proud of that. That’s a hard trick to learn, because my brain was really not picking it up.
Gotta be honest with you. I’m not really a fan of the skills Addicts app while it’s a cool app, it’s not my favorite. I’m gonna start looking at the learning here on the yoyo expert
Some people turn to their side and throw it as a sleeper that way, I think what the OP meant was being able to throw strong breakaways while facing the front.
The Brandon video that @fradiger posted lays out the difference. If you can follow his advice, then you are on your way.
IMO, he describes two extremes on a spectrum, and I think it would be hard to jump from one to the other, or to start out trying to learn it exactly as he describes. Obviously, if you can follow his guidelines, then that’s that. Personally, I could see starting out and having a hard time with the whole, “drop it for 1/2 second and then whip it around” concept. Maybe drilling the steps he describes would make it possible.
If not, I think that most people will naturally evolve closer to the “pro” version over time, if that is what works to generate power and accuracy.
Brother, I know exactly how you feel. There is the breakaway where you slightly turn your body and throw outwards and the one where you face straight ahead and “turn a doorknob” like in the BV video.
Don’t let anyone tell you a breakaway is a breakaway or they’re all the same. The two we’re describing are completely different down to the very hand positioning on the yoyo itself. I’ve bought and sold hundreds of yoyos and given my shitty opinions countless times without ever mastering the doorknob breakaway so don’t feel bad. Unfortunately though, I’ve not found a video or explanation that was able to help me nail it. Im very good at teaching things to people. There are always nuances and things that people leave out that are those are the missing pieces of the puzzle. I’m good at recognizing those things and am certain I could help you if only I had mastered it myself.
As of right now, my opinion on it is that these pros all likely started doing our standard version and it slowly morphed into the faster front facing version over time out of necessity of speed. Some people probably just pick it up faster. I dont believe they started practicing the doorknob way from stage 1. And that is likely why a lot of people cant pick that way up quickly when just starting. Im sure many sadly give up on yoyo altogether in those early stages cuz they try to mirror how they sees the pros throw it but every throw leads to an off kilter vibrating yoyo. At the end of the day it all comes down to many hours of repetition on the basic version I think.
Much love brother! Keep at it and we’ll get there eventually
