Do Rail Combos Still Score in Comps?

I was wondering if elements like rail combos or other speed-like combos still score in competitions today!

By merit of the yoyo hitting the string, yes, rail combos still score. They’re just not the most efficient way to score unless you’re like Ayumu kasuga fast and even then speed players have upped their speed combos to be more complex. If you wanna score well in comp nowadays zoning, tech (kinda related to the tech you might think of but harder and slackier nowadays) and hook and laceration tricks are the way to go.

Rail combos generally click 1 point every 3-5 string hits (up to judge’s discretion), though if you have an element within your rail combos that would normally click on its own then that would still be a point. As Ben said, at the highest levels they aren’t the most efficient unless you’re Dong Hun Nam levels of fast and you’ll often see elements which would click on their own within rail combos to help with that.

This video is a good explainer for the scoring system:

for another resource too gentry clicks some routines in this video that I think are pretty accurate clickwise (some of the hops i think are overvalued and ryuichi is too low but that’s why we have multiple judges!)

Thank you for another source to study! :man_student:
