Is the contra beta that good? Been curious
I dont really have that many yoyos or a big repertoire of tricks but I enjoy it a lot. It lacks a bit of power compared to wide bimetals like the Axono which makes it naturally quicker. It’s more like a nice wide generalist that I have a feeling would be good at horizontal.
Currently I only have 4 yoyos but my list as is follows
- Featherspin ptarmigan
- Motionyoyo perpendicular with brass rings
- Knotcreators s2 pink
- Edition Forma
I have the new Turner tops Sprout coming this week so that might be moved to #1

I’m honestly a little embarrassed to admit that if a yoyo is in a shade of pink I like, I will give buying it genuine consideration lol.
Whatever your favorite color is, you get a 50% increase in yoyo skill when you use yoyos of that color.

I think I now know what attribute I like most in a yoyo: agility. All my faves have them to some degree or another.
#1: yup, still it.
#2: Ptarmigan D
All the energy of its namesake in an undersized package, amplified by the advantages of a D bearing. Fun, fast, makes me smile every time I throw it. Best carry yoyo I’ve got
#3: AL7 Wraith & Perpetual
It’s a tie because I love them both equally for very different reasons. They’re both so good at what they do, and those things are not comparable to each other at all. Wraith is an absolute speed demon, the lightest yoyo I own. Compensated by those SS rims, it doesn’t feel uncontrollable or too light. The feel of it (amplified by a ridiculously smooth bearing) is kinda addictive.
Perpetual is just as smooth, but is built completely different. Power and tech take priority over speed, but is still incredibly agile. There’s a reason I kept a lookout for one after trying @JEA86’s PIF. I made a whole review on it, that’s how much I like this thing.
#5: Thruline
Criminally underrated. Pretty much my favorite OD of the 5 I own. I have it set up with a string that’s a bit shorter than what I typically use; its strengths shine with a shorter string, IMO. OneDrop did an excellent job making a comp monometal that can go toe to toe with most bimetals in the same field, using 7075 and almost 60mm dia. to get a similar mechanical advantage to SS rims. Powerful, pretty agile, durn good yoyo. Go buy one.

#1: Adrenaline Rush (POM version) - The King
Might just be me. No idea. But it feels objectively superior to everything else I’ve thrown. Stable as hell. Retains spin/power forever. Not the biggest fan of the engravings but that’s whatever to me.
I have a PC version coming on Wednesday and I’m excited to see how it stacks up in this list.
#2: Klondike - The Trusted Advisor
My previous #1. This thing held me down since May 2024 or something. I have zero negative things to say about it other than it simply got dethroned by the AR-POM.
I am so familiar/appreciative of it that I’m going to keep it around… for now.
#3: Super Scintillator Reverse - The Jester
Brings me a smile to my face when I play with it. I am not joking about that… I literally begin smiling and sometimes giggling. That earns the Super Scintillator Reverse a lot of points in my book.
It’s absurd/ridiculous. The shape feels awkward in the hand. It should not be half as good as it is. But, for what it is, it is surprisingly pretty damn good! Maybe that’s why it is so funny to me.
Truly an enigmatic/joyous throw.

You’re thinking back to an old post from probably 2022-2023.
I still like the Magnolia a lot, but since 2024 my preferences have heavily skewed in the direction of bigger and bigger diameter if I want more performance, but for the realm of more typical yoyos I value specific feel of movement far more than performance.
Now I’d say I like the Quercus more than the Magnolia because I think the Quercus just feels so much better to move around despite the Magnolia offering so much more (and more forgiving) spin to work with. Quercus is just barely behind the Borealis and FYFO for me.
Top 5s just heavily shift over time as your trickset shifts in certain directions. When the Magnolia was my favorite yoyo I used to do far more dumb dense tech, but now I heavily favor simple mounts and movements that aesthetically look nice, or physically feel good to perform. So now I value more how a yoyo feels to play, how it looks in play, and less how long it it spins for.
