Watch loads of freestyles. I’d recommend Takeshi’s Worlds FS or anything not insanely difficult that you enjoy watching.
One day, you’ll notice an element which you can try out and modify.
Also recommend mrmatio’s tricks, very useful

There is more than one way to think about it. Stringing repeaters together are a good way to get a long trick.
In competition it wouldn’t count, but I’m not concerned.
