Great 3A starts with one word: stability. Both yo-yos need to stay locked on plane through long combos, and that single requirement drove every decision behind the Coalescence, yoyofriends’ first yo-yo built specifically for 3A and 1A play. The idea started with Keitaro Nishimura and a group of Japan’s top 3A players, and it took three rounds of prototyping to land on a design worthy of production.
Early builds leaned on Melzi-style 7075 and stainless steel construction, but 3A takes constant collisions, so durability and acceleration became the focus, growing the axle to 14mm and moving to yoyofriends’ classic wraparound SS ring for more extreme weight distribution. From there, width jumped to a full 46mm for real catch zone room on modern 3A and 1A tricks, the shape shifted to a classic V profile inspired by the Overclock’s speed, and the gap widened to 4.50mm to handle string stacking in both play styles.
The final build delivers faster acceleration, higher top speed, and rock solid stability all at once, and it turns out to be just as strong in 1A as it is in 3A. The name Coalescence captures exactly what 3A is about: two yo-yos blending into one through the tricks.
