Hello everyone, I am looking for a nice yoyo that can be used for chill home play but also has good performance for competition play. The yoyos that I am interested in are the following and I gave a reason for each:
UNRPLD Distortion - Sale online and heard good things about it by many people, also love Daniel Kim’s style
Turning Point MGB - Might not be a chill yoyo but I love undersized throws and solid feeling. Can also be used for 5a
Atmos Cura - Seems very chill but mono might not be suitable for comp. In Hyeok Choi’s style is very smooth though
The distortion is an amazing yoyo, it’s one of my favorites. It’s very nimble while not being too fast. The pacing can be very relaxed while also having the stability for things like horizontal and zoning.
Dinosaur in the Wild, it has a great satisfying play feel (floaty, responsive) while still being very high performance with modern enough specs to be used in competition (although not as extreme as some more recent yoyos).
Edit: Also I want to add that the shape is really really good for comfort, the rim shape does a lot to make it so that it doesn’t feel gigantic in your hand even though it is a large yoyo.
What makes a yo-yo “chill” for you? That will help clarify what you’re looking for. E.g. do you want something a bit heavier with a relaxed pacing? or do you want something light and manoeuvrable that doesn’t drain you over long play sessions? Or something else entirely.
I will say, of those 3 the only one I’ve used is the Distortion and it is great but I don’t think “chill” is the first term that comes to mind. It is definitely fun and very capable but it has a compact, somewhat solid feel and it zips around. None of which are negatives but they don’t scream “chill vibes” to me.
The Cura also looks to be rather antithetical to standard competition designs imo.
You should look at the Motion line up, the general aesthetics of each yo-yo are so nice to look at that even the more performance oriented ones are really good looking.
