Big Sun 3D Printed Fixed Axle FS

Mods: Please remove if against forum rules. I had gotten the go ahead from @YoYoExpertGarrett awhile ago to BST some 3D printed yo-yos here and there, but just never got around to it. Not trying to start a yoyo factory or anything right now, just looking to sell a few to fund filament to try new designs and have fun with it. I can put in the “up and coming manufactures” or remove altogether if you prefer though.

I made a handful of these for folks to try. I think it plays great, maybe you will too. The Big Sun is inspired by the TMBR PockeHt and the OUT Hipster. Imagine a PockeHt, but bigger and with a response bump near the axle. Coming in at 67mm in diameter, it’s a big yoyo, but with a 32mm width and a light weight of 45-49 grams it doesn’t feel unwieldy or overly large in play. The variable infill density, large diameter, and wider than average gap makes for lots of power, long spin times, and a unique feel. The inner 2/3 of the yoyo is mostly hollow at only 15% infill density, while the outer 1/3 is a more solid 45% infill density. This variable weight distribution throughout the body combined with the interesting feel of the matte pla filament and layer lines against the string is something special I think. The 1/4” Walnut axle, 3.5mm gap, and 6 hole response along with the texture of the material itself makes for a consistent response thats not slippy, but likes a deliberate tug.

I only have 6 of these right now, but the colors are:

Sunset - Matte yellow with tricolor matte RBG
Dark Star - Purple/Green Silk with matte black
Shine Sprite - Matte Yellow with purple/silver
SPF 50 - Matte yellow with matte brown

27$ Shipped CONUS

I’m happy to provide the .stl and 3mf files along with detailed slicing and assembly instructions for 5$ so you can 3D print your own as well.

Very cool!! Does the wood axel get pressed in or glued? Is it “take apart” I guess is my question.

Pressed and glued. Not take apart. The fit is tight enough that I didn’t even glue the prototype I play and it hasn’t come apart after many hours though. I could print one and not glue it if you wanted.

They’re awesome players. Long spinning stall machines. Plus pullstarts and FS. Right on @TheThrowingGnome for hooking these up.

the intrusive thought of printing this closer to 100G hasn’t left me yet.

I think it’s around 80g at 100% infill. Not sure.

If you still have one available, I would like one!
