What’s Zero series ?

The Zero series is “Standard yoyo series for us”.
The round shape of this yo-yo series is compared to the number “0” (zero), and is used as a standard for measuring the playability of various yo-yos, as a “zero” of a scale.
Inspired by the shape of the DUNCAN Butterfly, the ancestor of string trick yo-yos, the design incorporates the essence of Anti-yo and A-rt.
The large size ZERO 57mm, the third in the Zero series, is inspired by the Duncan Freehand and Anti-yo YWET,
It is a classic narrow round shape yo-yo with the essence of A-rt Diptych.
The concept is “Timeless Beauty”.
We have reinterpreted the beautiful narrow round shape that has matured over the long history of yoyo.
And we expressed the beauty that changes with the flow of the times with a new coating with “time” as the keyword.

ZERO 57mm design reference

In the history of yoyo, the Duncan Freehand cannot be left out.
It is too much of a masterpiece for us to talk about.
Even in this day and age when there are so many great yoyos out there, the Freehand is still the one that makes you want to pick it up and use it, or carry it around with you.
It has a magic that cannot be explained by familiarity alone.
There are countless yoyo that have been influenced by Freehand, but the Anti-yo YWET has inherited Freehand’s DNA in a very strong way.
The Anti-yo YWET features the Quad-Fist response system, a yoyo with multiple responses, but it is also a unique yoyo design.
The full-size narrow-round shape, uniform wall thickness of the body, and large iconic hub design provide stable spinning power and comfort.
It is a fantastic yo-yo that is not widely distributed, and we had a very hard time finding one.
Therefore, it is not possible to carry it around or swing it casually.
Also, since it was the dawn of metal yoyo, it felt a little heavy to our modern senses.
I think this was largely due to the influence of the Diptych (6061) and D7 (7075) released by A-rt.
These were lighter in weight from the original CLYW Canvas, and could be swung with more ease, and could be considered modern reinterpretations of the Canvas.
How about making the ZERO 57mm also based on the YWET but with a slightly lighter weight, making it a casual, light round shape yoyo that can be swung with ease?
This is how we started designing the ZERO 57mm.

ZERO 57mm design concept

The ZERO design was created by these design feature based on the concept of "Timeless Beauty”.

  • A beautiful, streamlined, rounded design that fits comfortably in the hand.

  • Iconic big hub that creates a comfortable weight feeling.

  • The unique weight distribution creates a comfortable playability that allows for stress-free use.

The side shape is a mix of the original YWET and Onedrop YWET.
Schmoved rings are installed to reduce sleep loss and increase tilt resistance.
The narrower model is comfortable to use and moves firmly as desired, yet has a solid core feeling without being fluffy.
While inheriting the nostalgic feeling of the round shape that we have been using for a long time,
The result is a yoyo that can play with ease and without stress.
We highly recommend this yoyo to those who like the feel of the YWET and Onedrop Panorama.

Coating lineup

Smooth Ultimatte Coating (Matte)

  • Our signature coating which is smooth matte coating.

Aged Vintage Coating (Matte)

  • special USED process applied to Vintage Coating to express the beauty of a used yoyo. The background of this development was the realization that a used yoyo looks more beautiful than a new yoyo. Sometimes, we even think they are easier to use. The concept of ZERO is “Timeless Beauty,” but Aged Vintage Coating expresses the beauty that has changed with the passage of time. It is matte and slippery, and has a gentler and softer playability than regular Vintage Coating.

Vintage Coating (Polish)

  • Special coating replicating the vintage US made yoyo like old YYF and Onedrop.

Looks interesting. I assume the stars are meant to show which characteristic each type of finish leans towards (e.g. Polish = very shiny texture); at a glance, it looks like the polished finish only gets one star in the “Texture” category. Also, the “soft” and “solid” characteristics seem a bit strange to me in the context of finishes.

It means that Vintage Coating(Polish ) are shiny texture with solid playability.

Maybe a silly question, but do any of the physical yoyo stores in or around Tokyo carry these?

Now, ZERO is only available at our online direct store.
SPINGEAR is our one of retailer in Japan and SPINGEAR Kouen-ji sell our previous collections including Zero series.
I’m not certain which yoyo are still available at this store, please contact them directly if you want to know.
