I’m thinking of starting a club in my city and am wondering if anyone has any tips on what works and what doesn’t. Tips on starting, marketing, fees, meeting format & frequency, trick progression, venue, best yo-yos to supply and easily-missed costs are what I’m looking for advice on. Obviously costs will vary but I definitely want to get all the supplies I need while still maintaining a reasonable cost to each member. I’ve got about 120,000 people in my city plus another 8,000 or so in the surrounding area so I’m not really sure how feasible it is.
what city…? also i wanna be in a yoyo club or even start one but idk
I’m in Canada
oh ok!
ive been wanting to start a club in NC sometime soon I just dont have any. body who would want to do
yeah i understand if i were in NC i would!
surprisingly no one here throws
I’ve done events in my town in the past where I basically set up a table and about a dozen spinstars and yoyo while people walk by. People usually stop by, throw for a bit then leave. I have another event like this coming up soon so what I plan on doing is having a sign-up sheet or survey just to gauge interest. If enough people show interest/sign-up, I’ll look into costs and venues a little more. If no one in your area throws, sometimes you just gotta make (or at least encourage) them.
I’ve been unofficially organizing some Orlando Yoyo Club meetings over the past year or so. Main thing is I call up all my yoyo friends and they sometimes show up. Sometimes we get some new people stopping by, too.
Start small, grow as needed. I started a club a few years ago with two other guys (one of which never showed up then moved out of state) . We meet once a month at a science/educational store that lets us meet free of any charge.
We have had a meet every month since but we still don’t have any of the stuff you mentioned because the core people that attend don’t need it. We do get new folks, and people come and go, but we just hang out and swap tricks. Some of the guys sometimes attend and compete in contests, but there is no structure for making a team or any club trick lists except you pretty much have to learn Mexican Duck Pond or put up with a little good natured ribbing.
You can always get bigger if you get started, but first you need to find a good venue and get the word out. We used this forum for a while, now I am told we are on the face book and reddit, but I don’t mess with that.
