A question about yo-yo makers.

I was browsing the forums, and i saw a post, “Counter Attack or Protostar?” I did not remember what the Attack looked like so I checked it out…what stood out the most was “Uses a center track bearing”. I looked at the price, and it was a 30 dollar yo-yo. Which lead me to this question.
Why wouldnt the makers such as Yoyo Factory just put CTBs in all their higher end yo-yo’s, such as all of the metals? I have gotten two Yoyo factor yo-yos recently, the Tactic and the Boss. The Tactic came in the normal red/white/black box, but the Boss came in the “premium collection box” 13+ collectible, for use in competition. I just do not understand why a 30 Dollar plastic comes stock with a bearing that is considered and upgrade to my 85 dollar metal.
Thank you.

You might consider the center track bearing to be better than a SPEC bearing, but I would much rather have the SPEC bearing in a yoyo. Not all people consider it an upgrade.

I never really thought of that, Would you perfer the koncave over the CTB? or just spec over both?

I would personally prefer SPEC over the center track bearing and the konkave bearing. But it’s all preference, I am able to throw a strong sleeper, so the string stays in the middle of the bearing without the help of a konkave or center track. I think it’s a little better to learn how to throw a straight sleeper without using a konkave or center track bearing, but that’s just my opinion. Lots of people really like the konkave bearing.

So if you can already throw a strong sleeper, why do you prefer the SPEC?

Also, I’m pretty sure the most recent run of Boss’s came after they came out with the center trac’s.

I prefer the SPEC over a center track and a konkave.

I completely agree with this. When i got my first metal, i wanted to get a CTB thinking it would solve my problem. A man i talked to Ratfacedoodguy (i believe thats his complete name) told to me to get one when i knew how to throw a good sleeper, but to not use it as a crutch. I thank him very much for that.
I myself have not had a CTB or a koncave, but like you mentioned above, alot of people like them, and eventually i plan on buying one

I never knew they came out with CTB’s at first. I wonder why they switched it.

I said, WHY do you prefer the SPEC?

I feel it spins a little nicer and smoother. And the center tracks and konkave’s are meant to help straighten the throw, so if your throw is already straight, it’s not really necessary.

But i meant that i prefer the SPEC over the center track and konkave, not all other bearings. The 10 ball bearing is actually my favourite.

The Center-Trac is meant to keep the string from rubbing against the response.

You are probably imagining the SPEC being better because the Center-Trac is just a SPEC with angles.

I think it is pretty safe to say that 95% of people consider the Center-Trac to be an upgrade over the SPEC. I am one of those people, but if you prefer the SPEC, whatever floats your boat

Ya, center track’s are fine. I just don’t think they are necessary. I don’t want to have to rely on it, that’s just my opinion. I’m part of that other 5%.

I didn’t read the thread, but the SPEC is an upgrade for the high-end metals.

In addition, the BOSS came in a premium box because it is a premium yoyo - YYF has many different categories of yoyos.

I under stand what you mean by the different categories but Must of not said it clearly, but i mean, If it truly was a “premium” wouln’t it have the “better” bearing per se. I just reviewed the other premium category yo-yo’s and some didn’t have the CTB. I wonder what makes the manufacturer decide which to make standard.

I would think they put the CTB in the plastics in order to aid beginners. Beginners are more likely to purchase the plastics, and the bearing which keeps the string away from the sides can be useful. They probably put the SPEC in the premium yoyos because they realize more advanced players don’t need a bearing that keeps the string away from the sides. And what you don’t realize is the SPEC is a bearing upgrade.

Ah, i get it now samad. Thank you! I kinda under appreciated my SPEC then

has nothing to do with the bearing just practice your throw

I really don’t think you should be talking for 95%of the people. out of at least 6 different forums I can guarantee that if we did a bearing thread, only the newer people would be liking the kk and ctb’s. As it is, Most of the yoyo population don’t like them and thats why less manufacturers aren’t using them. The flat bearing is in higher demand. Think about it. Everyone wants an airg or 10ball bearing right? Not the modified bearings. Trust me. I’ve been in this for a long time and I’ve ask what people would want in a new yoyo. The consensus was flat bearings.

Check out this thread. out of all the posts there are only 3 that like/want the kk or ctb.

I’ve posted that thread over a bunch of forums and the outcome is the same.

I prefer 10-balls too, but from what I understand, a Center-Trac is just a SPEC with angles. When comparing the two, I don’t understand the disadvantage of the Center-Trac. If you’d like to enlighten me, I’d appreciate it.

I never said the certertrack was better or just as good. And I don’t even know if it is a spec bearing with angles. I’m saying the masses want a flat bearing.
