Krapfen has been one of my most played yoyos over the past year or two, so the specs and aesthetic choices on the Blumi look great.

I did like the more narrow gap on the Krapfen, but with the higher walls and heavier weight of the Blumi (plus most people using thicker string) 4.5 is probably just better here. Personally I also think keeping the engraving in the response or bearing groove is visually better, but that’s just me.

Just my initial thoughts, but yeah I want to buy one if you do a full run or sell some of the proto run.

Hey all,

thanks for your responses, I sure didn’t expect that amount of interested people.
So let’s move to a full batch.

A couple of things I need to confirm before commissioning.

  • There needs to be a better way getting the yoyos to the US. Currently, I’m aiming for a drop-shipment of the machining shop to the US with yoyos already assembled and packed.
While I would love to QA them myself, shipping from Germany is just horribly expensive and I do not plan to make profit with this thing. I already contacted Andre to see if he would be fine with the yoyos arriving at YYE directly. That of course also means they would be available for purchase on the YYE site, which makes things easier for you. All European folks I plan to cover myself, since it’s easier that way. Still waiting for his reply, let’S cross fingers.
  • One of the protos is currently on its way to a friend for his thoughts. There may be some final tweaking, but nothing related to aesthetics, just minor mass shifting for example.
  • Initially, I planned to go for a bi-color anodization, one half red, the other gold (in the spirit of the first YWET protos). That drives up the MOQ to 50 yoyos, not sure if the demand is that high.
That said, what other color/finish options do you have in mind? Maybe something flower/daisy related, but I fear that might lead to the yoyo looking like a fried egg.
    Spam your thoughts!
  • The current protos use a standard grit blast which is pretty smooth. I toy with the idea of going rougher for more old school vibes.

I currently have 2 prototypes left and already received PMs about those. The problem is: Shipping individual yoyos to the US is a bad idea and very cost intensive. So these might go to EU-based folks, sorry!

I’m curious to know why this project is separate from ILYY. In terms of colours these prototypes are stunning, but the YWET inspired half swap sounds brilliant too!

kind of Josy Ann adjacent as well

I do like the blue of the proto

but I’m really excited to here that YYE will handle the US @AndreBoulay always appreciate a YYE drop.

Blumi is more demanding than Krapfen due to the higher walls as you mentioned. It’s inherent to this old school shape and part of the appeal of the design. Yes, the wider gap helps balancing this apsect to certain degree.

The ILYY line-up already has the Krapfen to fill that niche. That and the fact that Blumi is a lot closer to the yoyos that inspired it, asks for a different approach than releasing it under the ILYY brand.

This is not confirmed as of now, I haven’t heard back from Andre just yet but it sure is my desired way to get these to US folks.

A silver and either yellow or green acid wash like what you’ve been using for the Alpha and Omega would look nice. I think those could invoke mental images of wildflowers.

A rougher blast also sounds appealing. I do like the modern standard blast, but anything divergent feels unique and fresh.

I liked the blue a lot, reminded me of a spring color, which matched the engraving and name well. Maybe a blue/green, like a bape, but in more of that spring softer palette like the blue already.
Or, spring Joker (green/purple) could also be a soft and always fun combo

Purple and gold half swap would be my preference, but I agree spring colors in general would fit the theme.

This does feel like a spring colorway yoyo! With the daisy and all.
Also I prefer a nice smooth blast:sweat_smile:

IMO the ones in the original picture are perfection already.
