Am I crazy for wanting a normal sized throw made of some polyurethane for offstring play? I always had an idea to make one out of a skateboard wheel and the sk8r brought it back to mind.

Tungsten as a ring has been done multiple times, particularly on smaller yoyos. The Old School Throws Medallion and the Old School Throws ResTi-W both have tungsten rings.
This one might be due in part to the Revolution Rev-G being such a terrible yoyo.
