Why I’m Advocating for Yo-Yo’s Olympic Recognition

This information was copied and pasted from the Internet. I’m not saying it came out of the Bible. And I’m not saying it’s 100% factual reality based no argument information. But what I will say is it seems to be pretty well thought out of what people domestically and encompassing the planet feel about yo-yo‘s in the Olympics. Sorry I don’t have a better explanation. But it seems like what yo-yo‘s want and what the Olympic Committee sees as relevant on a global basis or two diametrically opposite things.

>Throwing yo-yos will likely never be an Olympic sport because it struggles to meet the International Olympic Committee’s strict criteria for global reach, widespread governance, and traditional athletic definition. [1]

Global Governance and Participation

  • Lack of infrastructure: The International Olympic Committee requires an official, universally recognized International Sports Federation that enforces anti-doping codes and structured worldwide competitions. While groups like the International Yo-Yo Federation exist, they do not possess the widespread institutional recognition of bodies like FIFA or World Athletics. [1, 2]
  • Limited country reach: To join the Games, a sport must have active, organized national federations across a vast number of countries and continents. Yo-yo communities are passionate and global, but they remain relatively niche compared to mainstream Olympic staples. [1, 2, 3]

Perception and Athletic Definition

  • The “toy” stigma: The general public overwhelmingly views yo-yoing as a toy or a skillful dexterity hobby rather than a high-performance athletic discipline. [1]
  • Physical exertion debates: Critics argue that competitive yo-yoing lacks the heavy cardiovascular and gross-motor physical exertion typically required of Olympic events, placing it closer to competitive stacking or magic. [1]<

Just to note… I simply went into a search engine and asked why will yo-yo’s not be part of the Olympics blah blah blah? And that’s what I got.

….PS>>> I feel the need to suggest a more personal note which actually leans towards why yo-yo’s can competitive yo-yo should get some world wide Recognition is something that so straightforward and right in your face when you think about it. And what I’m talking about I’m gonna share with you right now.

In the text that I copied and pasted above my PS, there is the one section where it says yo-yo are a dexterity hobby rather than a high-performance athletic discipline.?

A winter Olympic event called Curling is the one I will refer to. No doubt it isn’t easy. But that being recognized and understood I don’t see any huge amount of anything that they do to slide a block over the ice and sweep in front of it with brooms to see how far it will go? And also the explanation states that the Olympic committee does not see certain things as worldwide interesting events so so to speak. Well, I personally feel that at least half of the planet honestly has any interest in watching people skate around sweeping the ice in front of a big block of whatever as it slides towards the finish line, lol

So it seems the international Olympic committee, talks a good game, but they don’t even really follow their own guidelines as to what should be considered relevant in eligible as an Olympic event.
