N12 is a stupid good value.
@codinghorror @TheYoyoer27 and @Evan_the_yoyo_boy something came in the mail for you guys today
Donāt tell me - youāve been mailing Mooses illegally through the postage service!
I think folks are a little too stuck on the N12. They neglect to look at the Y01, which is an improvement over the N12 in small, subtle ways. And the two yoyos are pretty much the same price. It is sort of a shame that everyone has become so dazzled/blinded by the price-performance ratio of the N12, that they canāt see it has been surpassed by the Y01.
How much more is the Y01? Money doesnāt grow on trees, Mister Z S Lane!
$15 for solid colors on Amazon. That makes it, what, about $2-3 more than an N12?
Highway robbery!
Well, I have never owned or played a Y01, so you very well could be correct! The N12 is still a killer deal though, there is nothing really wring with the over-all design. It is stable, long [enough] spinning, doesnāt feel like a rock, smooth finish, etc. Is it spectacular? No. Is it a great value? Absolutely- especially for a n00b.
And Iām sure the Y01 is too!
I hear you.
I sorta feel like MagicYoyo has become a victim of their own success here. The N12 has acquired this reputation that is becoming accepted lore, and so hardly anyone takes notice of the Y01, despite it basically being an āimproved N12ā.
The N12 isnāt alone though. I feel that the Shutter and WA Shutter are somewhat similar in this respect, and I suspect that the same thing will happen (is happening?) with the Cadence and the Cadence ES.
At least the Cadence ES and Shutter Wide Angle have an obvious name relationship with the model they āupgradeā. How would anyone possibly know the Y01 is an improvement on the N12?
Fair point!
To be honest, I donāt understand the naming conventions for yoyos. The only rule I can discern is, āPick a random word that sounds cool.ā A few companies try to remain faithful to a theme (like 2sickās chess theme, or CLYWās outdoorsy theme). But most just pick random words that nobody has used before, and that sometimes extends to the āupdateā to a previous model (e.g., Valor ā VTWO).
wow thatās neat, I never noticed that
How do you even do that?
A really big crate.
Iām not even sure what the relationship between the different N## models is.
There seems to be a rough categorization, eg. the T series is their older metal models, N are more recent, and Y is their current era. M looks like their premium/collaboration collection.

My daughter was doing that trick the other day with my Direwolf, they mustāve seen the same tutorial
I ended up doing a related trick, āBounce Off Groundā, many times in my first few months of getting into 1A. Itās actually not nearly as fun as it sounds. Especially not for the yoyo.
Yeah bro, he went to try that with my new, Candy Painted Kuntosh (Saturday market baby) today and I cought him just in time.
oof feels bad.
