What did you get in the mail for 2020/2021?

Not the best picture, but my Tanks just came in the mail. My first Dif-e-Yoā€™s!

Very nice! That was my first Dif as well. Thoughts so far?

A little smaller than the pictures suggested to me, as was the case with most of the yoyos from that time. I havenā€™t had a chance yet to give one of them a throw, but itā€™ll probably drive me nuts until I do, haha!

Iā€™ll also say, they are gorgeous! I can see why they were always out of my price range! I like organic throws. What did you think of it?

It was my first $30+ throw and I was smitten. Even though Iā€™ve added considerably to my collection since I got it a few months ago I still throw it a good bit, as I am also a fan of organics and really appreciate Frankā€™s work. Itā€™s not quite the performer that the Dif Juggernaut is, but the latter is also about $20 more expensive (and absolutely worth it IMO). I love the look of the raw Tank and enjoy alternating between having the rings off and on - something the Juggernaut does not feature. I think youā€™ll enjoy it.

Sounds great! I canā€™t wait to dive in! Iā€™ll have to see whether I like it better with the rings in or out. I guess this is a re-release of it. It was listed as a BTB (back to basics) throw and I remember them being much more expensive a few years ago.

It seems that these BTB Tanks are pretty damn close to the old ones. I just peeped the Dif website and eBay to compare, and hereā€™s what I found:

Specs for the original:
Weight: 67 grams bare, 75 Grams with weight rings
Width: 1.5ā€ (38.1mm)
Diameter: 2.11" ( 53.594mm )

BTB specs:
Weight: 67 grams bare, 72 grams with rings
Width: 1.5"
Diameter: 2.125"

Looks like the original had an engraved dome while the BTB has a sticker.

That seems to be about it. I never played the original, so I canā€™t compare that.

Nice!

Although I havenā€™t even tried one I am pretty sure I would love it, donā€™t sell it off right away if you donā€™t initially dig it!

I like it so far, not sure if thatā€™s the yoyo speaking to me or the hype getting to me though yet.

I know what you mean (I think). Every new yoyo seems like we arrived in the Promised Land. For me, no yoyo has made me feel that way and still does since Feb. 2019 when I got my Top Deck. The honeymoon never ended.

Sleipnir and VTWO for me

A Meerkat, and a Fat Tire, finally arrived!

After a few throws of each:

  • The Fat Tireā€™s bearing is super noisy, Iā€™ll have to clean/lube it.
It feels heavy, but it disaligns very easily. I donā€™t have the feeling with it yet.

  • The Meerkat spins quietly, and it seems super easy to control.

Also, I love the Meerkatā€™s color!!

that is not just raw, or has a galvanic covering (galvanizing?!?!) or if it is bare aluminum it has undergone some finishing process (it seems hammered).
From the lathe the aluminum does not come out that way.

It has a Prymatte blast and was sitting lost in a closet for a few months up in Canada.

now everything comes back, thanks for the explanation.

How does it play? Iā€™ve always been interested in the ā€œold schoolā€ style throws like the Cherry Bomb, Freehand 1, etc.
