Home now. Let’s a go!

My first fixe that wasn’t a 3$plastic.

My birthstone is amethyst and though I’m not a big “your born under this sign” (or whatever lol)) kind of person, I am very drawn to the purple heart.

===TOO LONG DIDN’T READ:===
It’s actually pretty fun and a lot better than expected…but it doesn’t compare to modern day throws.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with it…I’ve never looked up specs on it or anything.
Always wanted one though as I use to own a couple of the original Duncan Freehands and so all the older organic freehands (like the zero, mg and this metal) give me a lot of nostalgia.

I wasn’t expecting much from it. It uses a A sized bearing and friction stickers and is tug responsive.
I also thought it was going to be made out of super cheap aluminum and was going to be really light.

I also only paid $10 for this thing shipped and fully expected it to be all chewed up, scratched and dinged to oblivion. Heck no though! There’s one small ding but otherwise it’s in great shape!

But heck! It’s actually a really fun yo-yo!
It doesn’t compare to anything made today…but at the same time it’s far better than I was expecting!
The metal is a lot higher quality then I thought it’d be and there’s some nice weight to it. It doesn’t feel like a cheap toy.
I also have a cleaned bearing in it, so though it is tug responsive…it’s not overly snaggy. I even tried a few of my tricks that can cause even the best of my yos to bind up mid trick…and though it took me several attempts, and although it slowed the metal zero WAY down…it was able to pull the tricks off! I’m sure as my skill increase and as I use tug responsive yo-yos more, it’ll perform even better.
I think I could make it completely unresponsive with shims and maybe taking one of the friction stickers off (or using a well worn sticker(s) )…but I like having a few tug responsives to play around with. I’ve been so spoiled with modern day unresponsives this past year.

That being said…(and bare in mind, I’m still a noob), it doesn’t sleep nearly as long as modern yos I own, vibes quite a bit, is slim compared to newer stuff and has a small catch zone. It’s also not super stable and easily tilts on the string for me. The friction stickers also rub on the string so anything with multiple strings in the gap causes this yo to slow down super quickly.

Still though…it’s pretty fun and better than I’d expected!

Sick. The Metal Zero has a weir history of being crappy. Can you take a photo of the bearing seat and response area? and how long is the axle? I was always curious about this yoyo.

That is very cool man! I love how it matches up with your birthstone too!

Do you do much modern unresponsive? It’s definitely a style I’d like to get into eventually.

my spinworthys arrived yesterday, but i did not get to open them until today. therefore, it is still today’s mail day!

but, i had to hunt and chase my mail carrier around the neighborhood to grab this part of my mail day… i’d been waiting for about two weeks for this to land, and i saw the “sign for package” tag on my door when i got home, but i was not giving up. it was worth it…

I generally carry a responsive on me just in case someone wants to try to throw, as it turns to be what most folks expect to use. I do love the flow of responsive yoyos, but not any less/greater than unresponsive.
I just can’t help but want to excel at this having seen the work of @EOS44 and @edhaponik. Truly inspiring playa’s!

Play on playa.
