What did you get in the mail, 2026?

how is it?

Hi, great question… I’ve never owned an E1ns from previous runs, so I can’t make any direct comparisons—though I assume it plays like… well, an E1ns! Even if I had owned one, I’m not sure I’d have the skill to truly notice or appreciate the differences resulting from the weight optimization, the wider gap, or the switch to a KK (KonKave) bearing.
I can, however, compare it to the most similar model among the ILYY yoyos I own: the Wasabi '09.
The finish is definitely “candy-blasted,” though it feels a bit less aggressive or deep—which is actually a good thing. Looking at them side-by-side under 4x magnification, you can just barely tell that the abrasive material used has a slightly finer grit; the overall effect remains the same, and it actually improves the yoyo’s grind performance.

The playing feel is quite similar between the two. It’s hard to say for sure if the E1ns has longer spin times—it technically does, but it’s also equipped with a brand-new bearing, whereas the Wasabi has a 17-year-old bearing. I can’t swap them to test this, either, since one uses imperial-sized parts and the other uses metric. It’s wonderful to own, precisely for what it represents: as the name clearly suggests, it marks the beginning of a long journey for a brand that—in its own unique and original way—has carved out its own path in this world. Celebrating 20 years is a significant achievement, one that several brands have had the pleasure of marking; the “simple,” “clean,” and “essential” approach taken here strikes me as exceptionally elegant and tasteful. My only minor critique is that I would have liked to see a bit more boldness regarding the packaging—nothing intrusive that would have clashed with the project’s understated elegance, but perhaps a subtle nod or a touch of personalization acknowledging the 20th anniversary, rather than relying on the standard, everyday box, would have been a nice touch.
