Funny, but I’ve been throwing Haymaker way more than the GTR. I don’t think I can explain why yet but I’ve just been enjoying it more.

If I remember correctly @Mystik said the same thing a few days ago about throwing Haymaker more than the GTR.

Absolutely! I’m playing the GTR now, nothing wrong with it. Just the Haymaker was warmer right out the box.

Agreed. That’s a good way of putting it.

The difference in the two finishes is a factor for me.
Though I love the appearance of the polished clear coat, it’s texture feels almost alien to me rather than the “satin” finish on the Haymaker. Granted, it’s the first yoyo I’ve owned that’s like that all over- so there’s that.
Satin finish is so smooth though.

disclaimer: I’m sure I’m not using the right term for its finish

Bearing just went responsive on my GTR.

:man_facepalming:

Edit: Does a shift in the weather have anything to do with this?

There is a tropical storm hitting just south of me last I checked.

Its still playing responsive?

Sure is. I’ll get over it, but this is like the 4th time I’ve had this happen.most of the time just after I change the string for the first time. Is it just luck or what gives?
I have other bearings just in case. But still?

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like rotten luck to me. I’ve never had a bearing go bad that quickly.

Clean it! Definitely stinks, but it isn’t out of the norm.

Interesting… Can I take a shot in the dark here and ask if you typically run your bearings dry?

I like my bearings to be whisper quiet and spin for days. So, first thing i do whenever I get a yoyo – new or used – is my patented bearing cleaning ritual to ward off dirt, debris, and especially evil spirits.

Start with the bearing, shields off, and scrub with diluted Dawn dish soap, lukewarm water, and a toothbrush. Continue scrubbing and rinse thoroughly. Dunk in 90% isopropyl alcohol for bit. Can of compressed air to dry. Finally apply YYF thin lube with a sewing needle (if the drop cannot stay on the needle it’s too much). Put shields back on. Throw some tricks/sleepers to spread the thin lube until the bearing is essentially silent. Excessive? You bet! But I swear by it.

I don’t know if I run them dry. I just leave everything stock if I can and try to resist taking it apart as long as possible.
Is it ok to use a hair dryer if no compressed air is available? I feel like I read that somewhere.

All the yoyo bearings I’ve received so far have shipped dry. You can tell because they are crazy loud compared to a lubed one. I’d like to hear other people’s experiences though.

A hairdryer to get the moisture off, sure… I would stick to the cool setting because heated metal expands and you risk warping the bearing cage depending on how the bearing is constructed.

Also, the good thing about compressed air is that it spins the bearing crazy fast. This Centrifugal force will also dislodge any debris that could still be remaining – and it sounds cool!

Also, there should be zero risk in unscrewing a yoyo. No one is using scientific equipment to screw it together at the factory.
