My workmates today
I like to have a responsive and a un so I can switch it up. Also so I can just do 1 hand while I have a smoke break😉.
Man, I really like the looks of that Freehand…makes me feel nostalgic for whatever reason!
Thanks. The jeweled red has such a great glow to it in the sun. The freehand is so classic and is one of my favs to play responsive(though I still have a couple pros also😎). I plan on using the CudaX in competition next month, and the freehand is surprisingly close in shape. That’s great since I’m trying to dedicate my time to being one with this size/shape.
Oh!
I feel like I should know this…like you’ve mentioned it here on the boards before?
But what are you competing in next month? that’s really exciting!
So…ill be coming up on 1 year of throwing unresponsive about the same time as the contest(Feb 8 I think). As such I am very aware that I lack the vocabulary of tricks that others have. So I’ve decided to do what @MoonageMin did and do the trick ladder. The guys I throw with at my local club think I should do 5a also, as I have a natural ability for it having come from a fire performance background. And although I have apprehension about 1a comp, I may do it just for more experience.
That’s so awesome @Mystik…good for you man! I hope you have a blast!!
I was looking at the old “What Are You Throwing Today” thread, and did some simple mention counts for various models that seemed to be showing up a lot. The thread ran from Sept '09 to July '18. I’d love to see actual data analytics on the thread, but I’m not an analyst, so I may have missed something major. Anyway, looking back at (what seemed to be) the top 7**, in countdown order:
7. Shutter: 370 mentions (First mention is August 2013)
6. Avalanche: 373
5. CODE2: 411
4. DV888: 444
3. Dark Magic (all variants): 461*
2. Freehand (all variants): 516*
1. Protostar: 580
The OD Cascade (355 mentions) and Summit (331) deserve a mention, as well, especially as they released in the middle of the time frame the topic covers.
And again, this isn’t meant to be exhaustive, or even all that good, just some stuff I noticed. If anyone wants to dig in more, that would be amazing.
*Given non-standard abbreviation conventions in the community, these numbers may be higher.
**Edited to include Avalanche. Also, the 888 variants show up a ton, but I’m having a hard time searching for mentions without also getting the dv888 in there as well. Edited again to include CODE2. Edited again to reflect recount on Dark Magic variants.
I hope you had an algorithm run that and didn’t have to hand count. Great info there👍
Thanks so much! Just learned kwijibo, 6 more tricks to go plus some clean up. Bounty-boing is brutal😉. Might cost me 1 of my “lives”(as a seem to recall @MoonageMin putting it)
Kwyjibo is so fun. Congrats on learning it!
It IS brutal. I’ve learned boingy boing like 3 or 4 times. If I don’t practice it regularly, I lose it in less than a week. And I seem to pick it back up slower each time
Good luck in the comp. I’m too to yo-yo in front of a crowd, but you should feel right at home(ish) being a performer.
Thanks guys! I love being in front of a crowd! There is no rush like it. As for boingy-boing, I hear learning it first on 4a may be the way to go. I’ll let y’all know how it smooths out.
Obviously keeping everything align goes without saying but keeping tension on the bottom part with my Non throw hand helps me with boingy boing. I can never smoothly get in and out of it in a combo though.
the burm.
poly edge.
two yomega raiders.
OD Benchmark O 2016 with MArkmont Cumulous string (probably in need of some “freshening up” with a bit of a wash, after a month of solid play it is still great!). Oh and King Crimson’s In The Wake of Posiedon behind it there, a mighty fine album!
Now that I’m off work, a slight detour. Throwing grasshoppers and tequila/coke back.
My adulting is done for the day.
just got off work about an hour ago and yoyoing is so relaxing now
Edit: i work for my brother painting, because i can finish school fast, and i have a lot of time on my hands. this is very recent.
