What are you throwing 2025?

Any thoughts on the new DS-61?

Always fun to throw a fixie out in public. Ran into a father and a kid who were watching me stall, their kid was just learning to yoyo too so I showed them some fixie stuff. The father loved the wood yoyo.

I’ve been throwing my terrarian but I also love Bangarang and Mini star. What are some thoughts on ODs worth collecting?

I think it is great. Must have spent 3 hours with it this morning.

As a narrow yo-yo preferrer, I was skeptical, but I think the DS-61 profile makes a big difference. Most of the wider yo-yos that I own take a much flatter angle towards the rim (C3 Galaxy series, Little Savage, 1to1) .

I’m finding that the DS-61’s steeper angle is more functional for me. I can use it to target strings in a formation (e.g. chopstick) in a way that is more intentional than (again, for me) hoping for the best with a wide yo-yo that has a flatter profile. It makes the whole experience feel more like working with the shape instead of around the width. It’s obviously not optimized for this type of play, but it doesn’t feel like a chore either. It’s actually fun.

I can admit that this may be mostly psychological/optical. The profile fills less space, and that makes it feel less cumbersome.

In the hand, the shape is more comfortable than I expected. The radius on the outer edge is pretty generous. The way that the outer face of the rim is slightly scooped out instead of angled in or just left flat is a nice touch.

It doesn’t have a prominently powerful or rim-weighted feel, but it doesn’t lack spin time or stability. I’ve been surprised at how far I can take it even after it seems to be slowing down.

Top Deck, Kamuraiju, Pano, Aitch (fite me), Y Factor… honestly they’re all good for different reasons, I haven’t met a OD I didn’t like. I want the whole line up someday lol

Playing the Sputnik EOS today! If you’re looking for your first steel throw this one is excellent. It’s comfy and has a sort of competitive feel to it. It feels a little hefty but that’s a good thing! I’m liking this a lot better than my apathy.
