Trick-a-Week 2025- #34 Junyi Lin DoN Combo

Youll get that wrap if you miss the suicide. I am not 100% sure without a video but I suspect that is what’s happening. Make sure you’re hopping the yoyo up a bit when you release the string.

Thanks. Yeah I started seeing the slack a little bit at one point last night I think. I’ll try and record something tonight.

Okay sweet! Double check you aren’t moving the hands left or right when you release and making the slack smaller on accident like just a bit of a hop up as you release or gravity will pull and make that loop too small. Definitely easier than any rejection hooks I think so once we iron out what the issue is, you should be able to fix it and start crushing da trick without too much trouble.

Yea I kinda was doing a pull upwards with my NTH like the rejection hook. Then once I was done I read about just giving it a slight hop up. Im going to see if that helps. Thanks.

so this totally changed for me. as i was trying to work through this at first i was in fact moving the yoyo closer to my th and i was dropping my th lower to catch the slack. i noticed last night that i don’t do those things now. as i was doing it ln i noticed that in fact i position the yoyo closer to my nth now and my hands are relatively level. it genuinely felt like those were tweaks that helped me start hitting it before but now of course i question if it was just placebo

i bring this up for two reasons:

  1. i don’t want ppl following bad advice from me
  2. this isn’t the first time this has happened to me where i made tweaks that seemed to help but then i gradually adjusted away from those tweaks and that fascinates me

has anyone else had similar experiences working through tweaks?

This trick is just good clean simple fun.

That item #2 happens to me on a very regular basis. I think it’s often just part of progression on a trick - first you need more things to help you land it, and as you get comfortable you need them less.

The super charger whip is a great example of this for me - going from needing to pinch in two places when I first learned it to now basically not pinching at all.

agreed! I’ve been having fun using it as my kamikaze entry for Vector which I’m still very much enjoying daily

Starting to get the setup down on this tsukasa trick. landed the slack only a couple time so far….Definitely like that it gets into a kamikaze mount cuz then i have somewhere to go from there.

TAW 2025 Week 33- Tsukasa Namba Trick

The first two tries are what usually happens when I attempt this trick, any suggestions? I’ve only landed it about 4 out of 100 + attempts, so my success rate is extremely poor…

hmmm it looks to me like you are moving your hands a lot when you release the slack off of TH thumb. You really want to move as gently as you can and the least amount possible like you shouldn’t need to flick the slack off TH thumb at all. You want to let the loop move around on its own. Let the string simply slide off of TH thumb as you lift both hands (the hand lifting to cancel gravity looks good). I think it is flying around kind of unpredictably bc of the way you’re kinda like flicking it around. You can move TH up a bit less than NTH when you do the hand lifting and release part and that can help the loop move around faster and open if you feel like the loop is moving too slow (it looks like you naturally did this in the last one where you caught it). Attempt 2 was very close but it looks like you went to reach for the loop as it came around and that caused the string to come out of the gap (but you did catch the loop and that is good). The reaching was also an issue with attempt 1 like you were reaching for it a lot and then all the strings came out of the gap. Try to really just wait for the loop to come to your finger vs reaching up for it. Maybe try to bend your knees and move down a bit more if it feels like you need a little more time for the loop to reach your finger also. You’re not super far off at all so I think try to focus on letting the string float gently around on its own with very little movement; be very delicate and your consistency will improve. Hopefully this helps and isn’t too much to think about. Imma do the trick a bit more in a sec and see if I can’t think of anything else but this was my initial impression based on your vid.

that was my first thought too was you look like you’re trying to force the slack to move and it’s making it accelerate unpredictably. that loop wants to move. like Henry said, just cancel gravity long enough to let it. you got this!

I just finally got it randomly after giving up. It seems like the difference with the time I got it is the way I released the tension from my thumb had more oomph in it. Gonna see if I can keep getting it now or not ha. It was so satisfying to finally get once.

Thanks for all the tips guys… I definitely feel like I’m working waaay to hard to get that string to come around. Y’all make it look so effortless, I’m gonna try working smarter, not harder on this one. I definitely know that I’m reaching too much with my TH, I try to tell myself “don’t move your damn throwhand” but my brain don’t wanna listen

I’m finally getting smacked with a slack instead of it just sucking into the gap. I think I’m getting there.

I’m gonna take @GTDropKnot and @Splizacular advice and try a gentler touch. I’ve been trying to really put a lot of effort into swinging the slack and it hasn’t really been working for me (plus I can’t stop moving my damn throwhand )

My bearing just went responsive on me. Kinda glad it did, I was starting to sweat over that damn trick haha. Gonna take a little break. It doesnt help I suck at catching suicides. Gotta watch videos again and see how its caught, almost seems like its automatic.

edit: I am getting it more now. Not consistent but I got it a few times in a row. This trick kinda drove me insane haha. I think I was getting tangled on my release of the thumb so I wasn’t getting much of a loop. Now I kinda am focusing on trying to get the loop clean and as long as possible. Still having trouble catching it consistently but ill get there hopefully.

Week 34 — Junyi Lin’s Double of Nothing Combo

This is one of my favorite autopilot combos. None of the elements are really hard (I think they’re all easier than last week’s slack element), but a few of them take a minute to get the hang of/understand exactly what you want to do. The good news is that in addition to Junyi Lin’s own tutorial, there are a couple of additional ones by other throwers!

Side note: I would have sworn we’d done this before, but looking back I couldn’t find it. If you already know it, this is a great one to work on speed/smoothness for. And if you don’t know it yet, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
