Haha! See, if you pull tight right near the end, they HAVE to land! That’s when you know you’ve got them. The REALLY good people keep the string very taut throughout; me, I don’t like string burn, so I do pretty casual hops with taut string but low speed… and then speed it and tighten it even more right at the end.
Speaking of being surprised when something lands… got Spirit Bomb tonight! I was so surprised when both hops landed properly. I stared at the spinning yoyo going, “am I done?.. oh yeah, need to dismount!”
Spirit bomb; first hop more consistent, second hop still hit or miss!
To mix it up, learned McBride Roller Coaster in between rounds of Spirit Bomb practice. Easy moves, but not easy for me to do smoothly. Still, a welcome break from Spirit Bomb!
Speaking of McBride Roller Coaster or any other trick with a triple-flip dismount (like dismounting from a triple or nothing)… is it just me or is it tough to keep the yoyo on-axis?? Man, I suck at coming out of those.
The people who have already been so helpful are going to punch me, but… was there an “aha” moment for getting the Brent Stole more consistent? I’m using too much muscle and it wears my shoulder out, but I’m told that’s just because I’m doing it wrong. I believe the people who say that, but I don’t know how to get the string in place without really “givin’r”.
Try changing where you grab the string with your NTH. If it’s too close to the yoyo, the loop won’t be big enough. If it’s too far from, the loop will be too big and won’t have enough time to get around the yoyo. Find that sweet spot and you’ll have more consistent Brent Stoles
Thanks man! I suppose I shouldn’t be jacking the “I Finally Landed It!” thread. I’ll keep working on that Stole… the “too much muscle” is probably from thinking I need a bigger loop than I do.
I’m taking a different approach to learning stuff I am learning the mechanics on several tricks at the same time. Way more fun than the learn and master one trick before moving on. I was starting to get bored and my daughter started saying “I saw that one already do a different one.”
Consistent but not “mastered”: Rewind, Zipper, Eli Hops
Landed it: Plastic Whip, Boomerang
Learned the Mechanics: McBride Roller Coaster, Wormhole, Kwijibo, Boing e Boing
Hipster whips! Not perfect, still working on the inside-outside bit and overall consistency, but still pretty darn good for a couple hours of practicing.
