The Surveillance HPF by Mowl returns to YYE in two striking new colors! Designed for 3A legend Hank Freeman, this versatile bi-metal yoyo optimized for 3A, 1A, and 5A styles, features a notable shift from inner rim to outer rim design for enhanced weight distribution.
Boasting substantial steel rims for power and stability, along with a lighter overall weight for agile control, the Surveillance HPF offers a precision-driven and stylish yoyo experience.
The matte silver body, enhanced with blasting and anodizing, serves as the foundation for this refined yo-yo. The light black artwork, engraved using a specialized laser technique, adds a sophisticated touch, while the matte gold rims accentuate the natural beauty of the materials.
Beyond the complex engravings, it’s Mowl. The same question could be raised for brands like TP & YYR. With brands that market themselves as premium, I do think they typically spend more time tuning their throws and culling ones that aren’t “perfect,” but I personally still think there is a lot of that pricetag paying for the brand name.
Yoyorecreation are the best. There are plenty of overpriced throws out there. Just not YYR because there are none better. Yes, I am a fan…
Your point about brand-premium is taken. My original question, however, was trying to ask if the rings were actually titanium, badly timed tariffs? Or there was some feature that made the price what it was other than the brand.
to be fair, can you think of a single Japanese brand that doesn’t price their bi-metals in that range? Between JT, YYR, TP, and Mowl they all price their AL+SS bi-metals around the same; that’s not even getting into Hydrangea and their ~$100 monometals lol (though if they’re still made in Japan that could explain it but I think they switched to China manufacturing like everyone else)
Is this a new version of the HPF? Price is actually lower now than the original release iirc. Possibly due to the lingering relatively low JPY/USD rate.
some JP brands for some reason have un reasonable markup when sold for overseas, even if its the same store with same shop that ships local and overseas. i dont know why, but theyll probably say its the exchange rate.

This combination creates a transparent and balanced colorway, highlighting the craftsmanship and premium aesthetics that define this exceptional design. A true blend of elegance and innovation, this yo-yo is as visually stunning as it is performance-driven."
from their site. looks like the silver required more work. never seen that vefore but it seems its a special case here.
