Rad thanks!
When you say it at “normal” speed it comes out sounding more like “riffer-jetty,” but it’s hard to spell that with emphasis on the second half lol
We get all sorts of weird stuff. “rye-for-jyat,” “reefa-gotty,” “rif-for-ji-atie,” and others I haven’t remembered.
My mom’s favorite mispronounciation is “rig-a-forty.” My personal favorite has an accidental slur in it.
I love hearing what people come up with. Hearing people try to read it out is always great
I kept reading it as “ree-for-ji-ate"
I’m glad you shared the pronunciation and history there, very cool!
Same!
I mean dislike it all you want, but I truly find it hilarious that someone could misread it that badly.
I’ve only heard it like 5 times ever, and it seems to be an accent error kind of thing from people who don’t speak English or any other Latin-based language natively. I guess I just don’t see the point in being offended about it ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Probably one of the more common ones, yeah. It’s how text to speech usually says it, too. I’d say it’s a tossup between that and “riff-or-ji-ati”
Don’t tell me they’re slipping an “N” in there…
I feel you tho; I also have an Italian last name, tho it usually just gets pronounced with a Spanish accent instead, so no one really gets offended lol
Riffer-Jetti makes me think of shredding sick guitar solos on top a VW
I feel a blank with Tre thickness of the pad would be useful for those who want to use silicone. It would make it easier to make flush pads than with a thicker blank.
It would be like a washer… I wonder if you can find a washer with the right size at any hardware store. That would solve the issue in a cheap way.
In any case, is it possible to add extra pads to the order? That would probably solve my issues.
(For simplicity sake, let’s say it’s easier for me to have all shipped from the same seller than to buy pads somewhere else)
I’m already planning to send out at least 5 pairs of pads with all of the orders. I’m in the process of making an order for 300 pairs from YYF right now.
I’m attempting to prototype an adhesive-backed silicone pad that can be used in the place of the cork. I’ll include them with the prototypes so that people can test them out and let me know if they’re any good. I’m expecting it to make the things a little too responsive, so I’m also trying out some harder, denser neoprene rubber too. If I can find some Viton at the right price, that would be my choice for a rubber, but it’s usually pretty pricey.
If anybody has any other suggestions on material I can try, I’d be very interested to know.
FKM rubber, like a watch strap?
Edit: oops, that’s aka Viton
I mean to be fair, looking around for FKM rubber seems to be dropping the price precipitously because it’s not tied to the Viton name…
Just replying to say I’m following along and super interested. Looks like I have until end of January or 75 units to make up my mind and come up with the deposit. LOL! Such a fun endeavor to watch regardless.
All good! Glad to have you along for the ride regardless
The current order count sits at 24 units across 21 orders. I’ll keep this thread up to date on the count.
Well I have no idea why that failed, but let’s try uploading these again.
Fwiw, You have to wait until the pictures upload to YYE before you submit your reply
Thought I had, but apparently not well enough lol
Where do you get bearings in bulk like that from?
I managed to get in touch with @YOHANS and asked nicely if I could buy pads and size A Center Trac bearings in bulk. Very kind of YoyoFactory to supply me!
Side note, all the proto orders will ship with both an NSK flat size A from Spingear and a YYF Center Trac. Hoping that the people who elected to give me feedback will give me insight into their preference so I can make a determination on what to send out by default with the full production models.
