I just got my revolution and dark magic 2 in the mail.
I have lubed both with 2 or 3 drops of YYJ thin lube.
The revolution is fairly responsive, and the DM2 is extremely responsive with much less sleep time then the Revolution.
Is it the standard string that came with them?
Do they just need to be broken in?
Jesse:
I usually use 1-2 drops of thin lube, and then I break in the bearing(spreading out the lube evenly) by spinning the yoyo a few times. To fix your DM2’s responsiveness, loosen the gap a little (if possible) and break in the bearing. Throw the DM2 a few times, do some tricks, and you’ll be able to feel a difference in the smoothness of the spin.
As for the Revolution, I suggest pulling out the bearing with a pair of pliers and replacing it with a speed bearing(which should have come in the Revolution’s packaging). This will decrease the responsiveness. Also, like before, break in the bearing! Throw the yoyo a few times nd the overall smoothness should increase, while theresponsiveness should go down.
However, the DM2 doesn’t have an adjustable gap like the DM1. It uses the same syatem as the Revolution. And I would like to just reinforce this: break it in.
What is the usual amount of play time to consider a yoyo broken in. The last yoyo i bought was a mega factor about ten years ago, so I do not remember how long it took too get consistent performance out of it.
Well, it all depends on the yoyo and its bearing. Every yoyo is different; remember that.
Like I said, just start throwing it a few times and it will break in. Personally, I don’t think it should take more than 30 min. max. My DM1 and dv888 had the same problem, but apetrunk told me to break in the bearing. I threw both of them a few times( around 20) and it broke in.
You used too much lube on it. Now, it’s going to be responsive for a while. It wears away on it’s own, but maybe you can speed up the process by just throwing long sleepers to wear it away and then it should be unresponsive again. Things to take note of in the future:
You don’t have to lube your yoyos very much. I only lube my bearings probably once every month.
When you do lube your yoyo, a drop on the end of a needle is pleanty. Don’t use more than that.
Personally, I think that’s too little. 1-2 drops is enough. It takes me 5 min. to break in my bearings after lubing t hem with 1-2 drops of thin lube.
Ehhhh, NO. That’s not a good idea. It’s more likely to break it than break it in.
[quote=Frank Difeyo]I do NOT recommend using a dremel on a bearing!
If there is any dirt etc. in the bearing when it is used on the dremel…
the particles will be ground up and can get impregnated into the bearing.
