Record Spin Time

The first WYYC I attended was in Orlando in 2009. The second was the WYYC in 2019. One of the events I rather enjoyed at the 2009 event was the setting a record for spin time on one throw. I remember YoHans competing. I don’t remember this at the 2019 event unless I missed it. Probably wasn’t the most exciting but you could leave and come back if you were bored. And I think it was for a Guiness world record. Whatever happened to this event.

My guess is people got tired of waiting 30+ mins for a yoyo to stop spinning

The longer the record got the more prohibitive it became. It’s not even the issue of it being so long to set the record. Preparation and practice to make sure when it’s time you’re even in the ballpark to set it becomes a pretty time-intensive (and boring) process when you’re looking at current times. When it was 15:00 that was one thing lol.

I’d like to see someone tackle the fixed axle record again, although it would require a specially designed production-run throw along the lines of the YYJ DJ. But I bet some combination of rim-weighted bi-metal, ultra-thin axle, and the right string could put it within reach.

What is the fixed axle record?

For me it’s 9.7 seconds.
