If I had to guess, its a mixture of the increased risk of vibe and the inherent fragility of the resultant structure. I think typical hub construction is too weak to stand up to bend damage.
I kinda figured it out because of how well my .5mm walls held up in the aluminum test units of my RippleDrop design. Less than 40g and pretty near indestructible.
